So I need to get some new wheels for a friend and the best price I've found by several hundred dollars is tire rack vs dealerships and local shops. The question is, what can I do with the old ones? I know I can't put them in the trash and when I would go to a dealership they used to take these. So would we be stuck with an extra set of used tires?

Can't you just drop em off at a tire shop and have them sell/dispose of it?
