Hey yall, so I'm looking to buy this 91' TT with 42K on it. Original owner, has always ran off stock boost 9-10 PSI. I own a 93' NA atm, and perform my own routine maintenance. I was looking to get some advice for when I go to look at the car and test drive. What are some things I should keep in mind to know if it's a good find or not? He does have maintenance records ect. ect... If I do decide to go with it I need some advice on how to properly maintain a TT z, what oil to use ect. Thanks for any tips or advice in advanced!

I'll just move this out of Z33/34 Tech and over to Z32 Tech where I'm guessing you intended to post it.

I would say you can count on doing the major T-belt service as soon as you get it unless he has records of getting it done. It's not over mileage but it is way past age due date.

Sounds like you may have found a keeper with such low mileage, congrat's!

Here is a good little writeup for people considering a purchase

Thanks BusyBadger for moving the post, it was late when I made the topic last night lol...

Also thanks Zwicked I'll keep that in mind, as well as use the link you provided to refer to. The belt change is usually apart of the 60K maintenance if I'm not mistaken? As you mentioned, it would be better to get it done ASAP anyway... Thanks again!

Yes, it is. I'd definitely do a compression test. Make sure the car pulls and the turbos feel like they're fulling spooling. Watch for smoking. Sniff the exhaust to check for coolant or oil. And check for rust. Sounds like it might be a keeper with that mileage...

Also, as I'm sure you're aware, listen for lifter ticks both while cold and warm. A lot of problems can be "hidden" when test driving a car by letting it warm up before you get there, so make sure he leaves it cool.

Thanks yall, I'll keep everything in mind when going to look at the ride.... What about getting the trans flushed it is a 5spd. I heard if it hasn't been done to the ride in the past than I shouldn't bother don't know how true that is or not. Also I was looking around for a 60K maintenance package, can someone provide a link for a well priced package? Should I just take it to a nissan dealer and tell them I want the "60K package" done, or should I get everything first and just let them do the labor. I myself don't have the proper tools to do any timing work ect.. What all should be included in the 60K maintenance?

Lol, don't ever take your car to a dealer to have them "do what needs to be done". Dealers should be called stealers, cause that's what they try to do.

Yeah this is true and the sad part is a close member of the family used to work for a nissan dealer in maintenance up until about a year ago.... So my problem is, I'm not sure where to take it to have the work done, and without a lift it would be nearly impossible to do all of the 60K maintenance.... I live in NJ in Burl. County, if anyone knows of a good shop to take a Z to that would be great. So, should I go with this entire package, or stick with just the timing?

You can pretty much never overdo maintenance.

Joisy. Hope you're not a Yankees fan. Good luck finding a good shop.

Hehe, thanks and I actually am still contemplating if I should do it myself or not. After reading up on the guide for the 60K package on TT.net, it seems I can manage doing so myself. I'd just need to go out and get the proper tools. The only problem I see running into would be removal of the intake and exhaust cams to replace the seals.... seems difficult. Other than that the rest seems fairly simple with the proper tools, and time.
