Buying a new M

I have had an I35 since 2002...it has truly been the best car I have driven... No major problems ever, just standard maintenance. But with 136K miles, I am starting to think about a new car. Just wondering what your thoughts are on the M35x, especially compared to those of you who had the pleasure of driving the I...Thanks!

The M35 is a great car.

Just make sure to buy it pre-owned to save the immediate $20,000 drop in resale value. Also, don't expect much dealer support (but you probably already experience this with the I).

I'm in the same situation. I also have a 2002 I35 with 131,000 miles. I really like the car, but those M35's look awesome. The whole depreciation thing is bad news to those who bought new but it's GREAT news to a guy like me who is looking at the dirt cheap prices the '06 models are going for. I'm just bumping this topic to get a response to the original poster's question as I have the same question. How does the M35 compare to the I35?

Hmmm ... I forget exactly, but isn't the I35 a FWD? If so, then I would certainly pick the M35 over it in a heartbeat. The torque steer from high-power FWD cars is still not completely ignorable, unfortunately.

In general, the M should have much better handling, a more powerful engine, more [uptodate] luxury items inside, more electronics (that can go wrong too!), a bit more room inside, etc.

bought a m45 a couple months ago. been in the shop 4 times for 30 plus days and still counting. i'm not saying they are all like this one but be aware that it happens. avoid infinity of tysons if you do buy.

Hello,Welcome to NICO. I have driven both extensively and am quite fond of both. The platform on which the M is based, which underpins all Infiniti's sans the QX56, is excellent. It is both rigid and offers excellent ride quality. I do not think the superior driving dynamics of the FM platform can be said enough. This RWD platform, with the option of AWD, offers excellent handling. The engine is very much a kissing cousin of the one in your I35. Very if not totally similar. You will enjoy a much larger cabin in the M. The Second Generation M is cavernous. Also, technologically, the M35X offers most if not all modern electronic amenities. There is a price to be paid for this in added complexity and cost. Needless to say, test driving a M35X will be helpful in deciding.Cheers,ML
