So now that I've sold my 350z, I've decide that the G37S is what I'm going to get as my next car. I like the paddle shifters on the steering wheel, not having to use a key for anything, and the brakes... mmm...

anyways, I'm not in a rush to go out and buy one today, I wanna make sure that I find the perfect car. What types of things should I be looking or listening for? What would be a good deal on the car? What are there any big differences between a 08 and a 09? Does anyone who owns one have anything they really don't like about the car, or any common issues that you have?

Thanks!

going from the vq35 to the vq37 you will keep the same reliability but gain more power. they just made eveything about the engine better. One big difference is the 7 speed transmission (if you interested in an auto at least) some people feel the 7 speed transmission "searches" for a gear sometimes. depending on the year you buy you might need to get the transmission software updated to reduce the "searching", thats what i had done to my 2010 g37x. Then also keep in mind the when the car is in DS or manual mode that "searching" is nonexistant. its only when the car is in regular D when is the non agressive shifting. But to add a wrinkle while in D mode the car does learn your driving style, takes about a couple weeks. So usually when you test drive a 7 speed auto G37 the transmission is probably going to shift very quick in regular D, just cause people "play" when they test trive a vechicle.

I've had no problems out of my 2010 G37x in the 75k miles I've put on it with many track days.

Not sure if you want a sedan or coupe. There is a difference between 08-09 in the sedan...the VQ37 is in the 09 with the 7-speed auto. The 08 sedan is a VQ35 with the 5-speed. In 2010 they had a slight change in the body styling and upgraded the AC system.

For the coupes, the 08 was the year they went to the VQ37...Subtle changes every year, but not enough to make a big difference.

Sport package is worth it, but the drivers' seat does change and some find it uncomfortable.

As for the used market, normal used car buying advise...check the carfax and/or fluids/body for damage or neglect.

I'm looking at getting a 08 - 09 G37S coupe, though I'm not opposed to getting a 4 door. Really though if I go 4dr it'd be an 07 - 08 G35S. I'm still in the looking phase though. Prices seem to vary quite a bit so I may just wait it out for when the new models come out and the price drops a little.

I've also though about leasing, but I'm not certain if that's the way that I want to go...

I traded in an '08 when I leased my coupe. If you think there is a possibility you might trade again in another 3-4 years then a lease is the way to go. Some people do nothing but lease new cars, payments are lower this way, and you don't have to worry about getting screwed on a low-ball trade in offer down the road. Plus of course you are always in a new or newer car. Right now is a perfect time to lease if you are waiting to see what the next generation of G's will look like, by the time your lease is up they will be out. Of course if you decide to purchase at the end of your lease you will know the complete history of your car, and will have the benefit of knowing you were the only owner and that your car was maintained to your satisfaction. I have heard it said that your can never really own a car, it's more like a stewardship. I think this is absolutely true.
