I have a 2004 sentra se-r spec v and it continues to burn oil. I havnt tried anything 2 fix it yet because im not entirely sure what tha problem is. It also backfires evry time when tha engine goes bak 2 idle from anywhere above 3000 rpm. I need advice on what tha problem could b so i can get started fixing it 2 save oil, money, and hopefully my engine.

I just purchased an '04 Spec V that had had an engine replacement for a problem just like that. It seemed to be a common problem among '04s and should be a warranty repair through Nissan.

Altimas with the 2.5 have had the same problem too of eating oil only between certain years though. Take it to the dealership and get it sorted out.

Your engine ate it's precat. Nissan will replace it for free.

02-06 SE-R/Specs and fewer 2.5 Altimas of the same year range.

'02-'06 had a recall, Altimas and SE-Rs, to reprogram the ECU upon other crankcase measurements.

What kind of oil are you guys using? synthetic? I had a oil issue with the wifes spec, 2002 model. I stopped using mobil 1 and just use regular penzoil and now it doesn't burn a damn drop of oil. It was using anywhere between a 1/2 - 1 qt every 3k miles.

Will tha fact that i have aftermarket parts (CAI, catbak exhaust, headers, throttle body spacer) affect nissans compliance 2 tha recall?

Next oil change cycle is comin up this weekend i think imma try usin non synthetic. Wat would u recommend while still keepin tha fact that i run it on tha drag strip in mind?

It shouldn't, but if they jerk you around you may have to go to a different dealer for simplicity's sake. By jerk you around, I mean they may try to claim that it isn't a recall issue and it's your fault.

Try penzoil or castrol 1. If you were to take your car to the dealership for an oil change, they would put 5w-30 penzoil in there.

How much oil are you burning?

If you have the recall open on your vehicle, a dealer CANNOT turn down working on it because of modifications...as long as your basic engine is there, they have to perform it. So, I agree with the above statement.

yes, if you read your owners manual and warranty info....any of the above could be reason enough for them to turn you down. though they can't deny the fact that they recalled just about all the QR25's. DOH! To ensure you don't get d!ck around I would put it back to stock or as much as possible. Though if you do have nismo performance parts, it might not be as big a deal. just my $.02.

listen to nametakenow and nissantech, they are right about them being obligated to fix the problem if it is a recall, mods or not. you might want to read the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act to give you more of an edge when dealing with the dealership, or just check out the thread below. good luck.
