Shocks are OEM Nissan only. No aftermarket and not shared with another Nissan model.

the z31 and j30 share similar mcpherson strut setup. at one point i was going to see if the shock cartridge was similar to the turbo or to the NA z31 300zx. this would not be a wise choice to figure out for stock setup. i was wanting to do this since i have the lowering springs. right now the stock shocks are far to compressed and the 300zx shocks are much shorter so wont have as much travel.

i know the 97-01 q45's run an almost identical front suspension design as the j30, granted everything is a little more beefier to handle the v8. i dont know how close all the bolt holes line up, but it may be worth looking into. i will post up some pictures if i stop by the local junkyard anytime soon.

So does anyone have the results? Can I use a different front strut in my 93 J30t or am I stuck with the $367 OEM?

Thank for all these tips!

I still dont know yet on the shocks for the front strut. Havent had the time to take it apart and see. Might see if I can grab one from a junkyard to do all of this and minimize downtime of my DD.

Do you still have these springs as I know you have gone to the S14 spindles and S13 Coilovers now?

NO! 3rd generation maximas (89-94) have the "J30" Chassis.
The Maxima was redesigned in 1988 for the 1989 model year as the J30 series (not to be confused with the unrelated Infiniti J30) model.
