ive had my 06 Z for 2 years now, and NEVER changed the brake pads and rotors on the car...

should i just change the pads or do pads and rotors?

how much will it be just to take it to the dealership and they do it?

what are the best aftermarket brake pads for stock rotors?

thanks

I changed mine recently in my 04. You change them when they need to be changed. The best thing about getting aftermarket brake pads is you wont have to wash your front wheels as often because of brake dust.

you should be ok just changing the pads, as long as the rotors aren't warped. you would feel a pulsing when appling the brakes if they were warped. you should also check the rotor thickness with a micrometer to make sure they are not worn to thin, also look for any deep gouges in the surface. minimum rotor thickness specs are in the service manual, or most shops automatically check them, really good shops will also check for runout (warping) with a dial indicator. but ask anyway, just to be sure. as for cost you will just have to call your local dealer and ask, or any good shop can do a pad change for around a hundred bucks including parts.

I have Hawk Hps brake pads and they work great and I have never experienced fading on the track. I believe Ferodo makes some really good brake pads as well.

at the very least get your rotors turned so your new pads have a fresh rotor to bite on. this is brake basics

this is a debateable subject, (turning rotors). i personally dont have mine turned unless they are out true, (warped), or have gouges in them, (not changing pads soon enough) or glazed, (cheap pads). with todays newer composite pads the need to have them turned is not as important as it used to be. i generally just change pads and do a couple of medium speed hard stops to seat the new pads, and leave it at that. and i have talked to many mechanics about this and they agree. why remove material from a perfectly good rotor if it doesnt need to be. just my opinion, and a couple of mechanics i know.

any machine shop can do it or any decent mechanic shop should be able to do it.as far as price, i'm not sure, $20 seems like a fair deal to mei used to go to my high school which had an automotive class and I used to have them turned there
