Noticed this morning when I was reversing down the driveway that after a few meters of movement the Q seemed to slow down as if the brake was being applied. I tried putting it in neutral and it still seemed as if there was some braking force holding it back as my drive is on a slope. I tried it again this evening and the same thing seemed to happen. I did wonder if it was to do with the active suspension maybe raising the rear of the car.

Any thoughts??

Or perhaps the parking brake is not releasing completely.

Come to think of it the parking brake seems a bit weird. I have to push it almost to the floor to get it to hold. Is it easy to adjust?

My car does the same thing (92 Q45) and I maybe wrong but I thought that was the ABS doing a self test?

If its sounds like you ran over something, or a quick vibration, it's the ABS. I always notice it more backing down a hill...

It does feel if I have run something over when I reverse down the drive. I also get the sensation that a braking force is being applied although I think this happens before the "running over something" sensation happens. Is all of this explained by the ABS self test that you have mentioned?

Normally I dont feel a braking force, but I feel the pedal vibrate and a giggling sound come from the hood (pass side, near firewall, where the ABS modulator is).....

If the parking brake is way out of adjustment, it can grab & apply itself when reversing. You had better remove the rear disc & check the shoes & make sure there isn't any other problems, like a lifted lining etc.

Sorry I am a bit confused. The Q45 has rear disc brakes so is there an additional drum system as well for the parking brake?

The FSM shows one but I am not sure where this is or how to adjust it. Is it behind one of the brake discs?

The rear brake disc is also a drum... Kind of strange design, but the drums are used only for the parking brake. Check your FSM for the size bolts you use in the holes to break the disc free from the hub - you'll need them.

The front and rear rotors use different sized bolts for removal, but the manual only gives size for one of them. One is 8mm, the other is 10mm I think. Can't remember the pitch.

Just checked the FSM and rears are M8 x 1.25 - I didn't even realize that the fronts have the holes... They've never seized on me before I guess.
