Check out the search button (flashing red one at the top of the page). There are a lot of old threads on the subject.

Did you just replace your pads, or did it just suddenly appear?

Front and rear passenger side pad have a sensor that when it gets rubbed off gives you the message. Time to replace pads and sensors soon. Some people bypass their sensors, I like then personally.

I just purchased the car and the diagnostic unit was not working. I replaced the unit and the "brake pads worn" display came on. I have another 94 Q45 I can use for parts. On the old car I know that I had the pads replaced one time and they did not use OEM parts and the light came on. I suspect that this car has a similar situation, because the pads appear in good condition. How can I bypass the sensors?

tie the two wires leading to the sensor together. When they are connected = no warning. When the circuit is open = warning.

I tied the two wires together on the front and rear sensor wires, but the light still stays on. I took it to the local Infiniti dealer and he spent several hours on it and could not get the light to go off. His thoughts are that there must be an open circuit somewhere in the wiring harness which could take forever to find. Any suggestions on a next approach? Thanks

hmm, well...If you follow he circuit with the FSM I imagine there are a couple points you could check the circuit at to narrow it down. When I get a minute I'll take a look at the FSM and see if I can point you the right way.

If you don't have your FSM, download one at http://www.phatg20.net. Decompress the .rar file with a utility you can find with google... then locate the pin on the back of the instrument cluster that is supposed to be grouded when the pads sensors are good. If you ground that pin, the message should go away. If that doesn't work your message display is bad.

Good luck!

Heath
