I realize .50 BMG is not a game round. I was talking merely from the standpoint of its effectiveness on the crotchal region.

I will watch this youtube video you speak of.

M1 Garand, yes.

8 shots IIRC. The clip automatically ejects when it's empty.

Don't shoot commercial ammo through your M1, it's stupid.

The .30-06 isn't that bad. Try shooting a .460 Weatherby Magnum without a muzzle brake.

I will bet it would knock me out of my shoes. Ammo is probably like $2/round as well. You pay dearly for manliness when it comes to ammo.

Actually, I just looked it up and its more like $7/round. I could get two Thai hookers for that much.

It's pretty hardcore if you hunker down on it. The rifle is designed to be shoulder fired standing, and that leaves a pretty gnarly bruise from one round. It makes a 12-Gauge look like a punk b****.

If you want to make it a number the .30-06 with a 150 gr. bullet will put out about 17 - 18 lb. ft. of recoil energy. A .50 BMG in a Barret M82 puts out approx. 70 depending on the bullet weight. Without a brake the .460 Weatherby Magnum puts out 99.6 lb. ft. of energy.

you really gotta know how to handle one of these to not hurt yourself or the rifle.

I really want to shoot a .577 T-Rex. That and the big Nitro Express rounds.

So far the biggest I've shot is the .460. I don't count the .50 BMG since it's tamed down.

It's funny watching the people that don't know how to properly shoulder the rifle.

Then athe old guy sits down, fires, reloads, and is ready again

there's proper shouldering, then there's just knowing what you're in for.

I'd imagine that's more like firing a subgun where in you need to lean into it

You lean into it, putting most of your weight on the front, and you grip the hell out of the rifle, especially on the fore-end. Most of those people obviously have never been taught to shoot any rifle, much less a .577 T-Rex; that's why it goes flying out of their hands.

Sub-guns and small caliber rifles are best shot from a chest plant and compact stance. You don't need to put your weight into them, just hold on and give the gun a solid platform (use your upper body weight to your advantage).

all I've got to shoot is a few MP5's

largest caliber rifle I've gotten my hands on was...I might have shot a 7mm Mag at one point...next up would be a .30-06

The MP5 is still my favorite. I've shot a Reisling, UMP45, Thompson, Super V, P90, MAC 11 in 9mm, MP5, and the MP5K-PDW. Of all of them, the P90 and MP5 are the most controllable. The MP5K-PDW is less controllable due to the lowered weight and increased firing rate, it's kinda a buzz-saw like the MAC. The .45 cal. sub-guns are just bleh, too much movement, and generally punishing to shoot.

the P90 looks extremely easy to hold on to.

I wanna get my hands on a 10mm MP5 and see how that goes...

how was the Thompson?
