My Bose head died, no power, I unhooked the battery cable to the car for a few minutes, reconnected and the head started working again, then died again. Repeated this procedure will restore service briefly, so I am unsure that the head is bad. Anybody got any suggestions?

Consider yourself fortunate that yours has worked properly this long. Performace can get pretty flakey until they just completely fail to work at all. It sounds like a circuit or relay that is opening up after a while, but it's probably internal to the unit. They aren't too difficult to remove and I was lucky that this repair outfit is in town.
