Do keep us updated! :) It's cooling down a bit over here, but I would love to have A/C in time for next summer haha. Thanks so much for doing the R&D on this!

where are you located? i have a RB20DET i'm about to trade for and i haven't checked it out, but pretty sure it dosent have ac (only cuz all RB20's ive checked out dont), you could test it out on that one, i'm located in burlington nc.

Does this apply to all RB's, including the 26TT? Or does the spacing for the twin turbos make this A/C setup not possible?

OK...so I just went outside and tried a few lines I had laying about and here is your S13 RB20,25,26 recipe you asked for: The trick lies in the 96+ J30

S14 or J30 condenser (same size as S13 but lower mount tabs off some)
late 96+ j30 a/c line, low pressure side to firewall and compressor fittings same at firewall
J30 high pressure line compressor to condenser
any year J30 compressor

high pressure side retain the S13 evap canister and high pressure line, charge system call it a day.

or use the whole system out of a J30 96+, the lines changed back to S13 style the newer they got....my guess is they used similar items since S13 was produced up to 98.

If you find any snags in this setup I will refine it more, it took 10 mins to get this far. There are 2 ways to run this setup, also can anyone confirm S13 singles and Dual cam cars share lines at the wall?

Doing a 95 RB26 swap retaining twins this month...back line clears the turbos better than a top mount RB25 out of car, so I will install this week and let you know.

Thanks....Since I'm starting with an empty 97 shell, I'm ordering everything I need for the swap now. Heat & humidity in VA can be a beast!!!

Does anyone know if this would work on the rb25 neo? I got custom lines made and got my AC working and now my compressor is going out :(

Figure if I can get something USDM itll save me some cash.

Why not use the ac compressor that comes with your rb swap, ever rb swap I've bought has the ac compressor and the line ends still bolted to the compressor, you can have a hydraulic shop make you the lines for 80-100

Picking up the parts for the a/c for my 95 240 today, I hope. I found a 93 J30 at Pull-a-Part with everything there. I tried to get it yesterday but I did not have a wrench large enough to get the nut off.

Can anyone tell me which belts I need to use when putting this together with the J30 A/C components? I have a 95 s14 with the RB25 swap and all of the 93 J30 A/C components. I forgot about asking what size belt is needed.

Ok so I will need the stock z32 belt that turns the ac compressor. Thanks

Apparently the RB swap that I bought from the shop did not have the AC bracket on the motor. Do you know if the RB25 and RB26 use the same AC bracket? I doubt it but I thought that I would ask. Also how did you address the evac of the system, flushing of the system and recharge?

The shop that I was working with was on the last let of my swap (A/C) got nervous about this portion; evac of the system, flushing of the system and recharge. So he is going to discount the price of the swap and provide me with the A/C shop that can do all brand new components in the case of lines, condenser and dryer for $500. If I can just get the current system evacuated, put in the J30 stuff I have get it flushed and charged for less that would be the way to go I need to find out how much that will cost but most importantly at this time is to get the AC bracket to hold the compressor.

Pulled compressor, lines, drier, and condenser from a 96 J30 today. The compressor fits the RB bracket as advertised, but the condenser is too large to fit in my S13. I didn't bring a wrench large enough to get the main lines that run behind the motor, so I'll be going back within the next few days for those. They all look like they'll fit, though. The only thing I need to source now is a condenser that fits.

96 J30 line from firewall to compressor doesn't fit either. The connector on the line is too small.

I'm interested in this as well... I'm looking to put A/C in Becky's '72 Z (RB25), so I'll be keeping an eye on this thread.

If anyone runs across a spare RB A/C bracket, I may be interested.

Keep up the great work, guys!

97 j30 for S13, 95-96 they flip flop between months...so later 96+

I just added a/c to my S13 VG30DETT car, used OEM S13 lines with a 97 J30 compressor on the TT engine bracket...compressor plug same as S13 as well

Probably about 1/2" to 1" too tall.

Started off by notching the bottom of the core support, like so:

Got it super close but not quite there.
I cut the lip off the backside of the top of the core support, bent it up a bit, and she slipped right in.

With the drier and line connected.

So the S13 line will bolt to the J30 compressor? My car didn't come with anything, so I'll need to find someone locally with one to do any testing, lol.

According to the FSM, the low pressure line compressor fitting (j30) needs a 19mm oring, where the 91-94 S13 compressor uses a 12mm oring. The FSM diagram for the j30 is the same from 93-97.

Here is a junkyard special, built with all OEM USDM parts from the scrap pile...stuffed into a S13, so far $600 in

The good stuff..

J30 compressor 97, on S13 91-94 lines
Image

The J30 deff has 2 sizes of lines, like the S13 sohc and dohc lines one smaller than the other.

So far I have actually installed or tried out the following:

94 J30 low pressure line with 94 J30 compressor, condenser, drier, and high pressure lines...installed into 95 S14 RB25, on RB25 bracket

97 J30 low pressure line, test fit into 90 sohc KA at firewall, J30 condenser fitment, s14 fitment

97 J30 low pressure line into 96 S14 at firewall, 97 J30 compressor, used s14 condenser, drier and high pressure lines

93 J30 low pressure line into 95 S14, 93 j30 compressor, rest is stock 95 S14

97 J30 compressor only into 91 S13 system...plug and play, bolted to VG30DETT engine and stock bracket before I even wired the engine swap :) (see pics above for fitment)

Is this what the 93-early 96 compressor looks like?

If so, Ive got the later version. Looks like 9/95 is when the s13 style fittings started.

I just found a 94 j30 and all the lines on the firewall fit perfectly on my s13. I actually went to the hardware store and found 2 nuts that fit the lines at the firewall and just went to the yard. First j30 I saw tried them and they worked, brought them home and it fit perfect. All I need now is the compressor and a new dryer(hope you guys know to change that when the a/c system is opened.) I'll take pictures and post them up soon so you s13 guys know what to look for.

I work for a radiator shop and we weld a/c lines all the time so so all that was no problem for me, i just had to weld the rb's compressor connections to the factory lines on my 98 s14, gravy... But, what is everybody doing about the electronics? I got mine working and all, only thing i need is another electric fan since it stops cooling after a few minutes of idling, but if i remember correctly i had to bridge some wires, and the way i have my a/c running the a/c compressor wont cut off under wot whereas on the r33 it does, at least that's what i understand. Or is everybody just running an a/c standalone system? Do those even exist? xD
