I will remember 2008 as the end of two eras: Bill Gates' retirement from Microsoft, and essentially the computer industry, and the release of the last optical disk format for entertainment content – Blu-ray.

The two eras, you see, go hand in hand.

It is amazing how far we have come from the release of a 16-bit operating system (OS) running on an Intel processor with no support for hard disks or subdirectories. My IBM DOS 1.1 (circa 1982) is still in the original box.

That OS is how Bill Gates changed the computer and entertainment worlds. It also was the start of how Microsoft brought computer programming to the masses

You're sure we won't be getting Blu-Ray Elite in a couple years, with the ability to display 1080y?!

Funny you should mention that. Sony has produced a 2400x4096 projector used for theaters. http://news.cnet.com/8301-1793...est=1

It wasn't long before 720p and 1080i became obsolete and 1080p became the defacto standard. However, now they're talking about 3D tv and Sony is already producing that projector. So where will it stop? It wont, there will always be something more. But where will the mass majority of consumers stop? At the next hugely supported and cheap media format. Right now that's DVD.
