Also, how wide of a tire can you safely put on the stock 16in wheel? I've heard 245s are a stretch, how about 235s?
Thanks guys
As long as you are looking at a summer only tire, I invite you to check out the Hankook R-S2. It's been a phenomenal tire so far for me and was cheap as hell. I got into my 245/45/17's and 225/40/17's for less than $500 shipped from Tire Rack.
My last set of rubber was the KDW and though they were really great for the first 5k miles, the quickly degraded after that and lacked anywhere close to their initial grip. They only lasted about 8k miles before I had to replace again because the noise was simply unbearable and they were just out of stick though they had 3/32nds still left on them.
As for the stock wheel, I wouldn't run more than a 235 on them and that's actually pushing it a bit. By going to a 245 on a 7.5" wide wheel you're actually going to bubble the tire a bit and not only will wear be weird, but you'll also have less grip than you would with a good 225.
