Thanks, and it is not surprising to me to find stuff on NICO. Tons of good info here. Post up your info when you get your Z. We love pictures :bigthumb:

And...

I figured out the idle issue. Took me all night but I figured it out. It would not idle because the IAC valve was cranked almost all the way in. I must have fixed a intake manifold leak somewhere with all the new gaskets and stuff. The IAC valve was turned in to compensate for the leak. Now that it's gone, Idle too was too low. I adjusted the idle out, and then I could adjust the timing, BAM! Puring like a kitten. :dblthumb: Went out or the test drive and :woot: Back in business.

A good friend just got back from Zdayz and had some pics of a very familiar orange Z. I'll make it down there one of these years.

Where does the time go?????

Its been over three months and no updates. :wtf2:

I have put over 3,000 miles on Betzy since the last update. We have been all over the place and having a blast. My next big event is going to be NICOFEST at the dragon and I want to try and see if I can get some things done before we leave. Got the oil changed :bigthumb: and tried changing the oil in the rear end to make it a bit quieter. I was using the redline high shock gear lube. I changed to Amsoil 85W-90 with Jegs CLSD additive. Wow, what a huge difference as far as the CLSD chatter. Still getting the pinion buzz though. I decided to pull the R200 out for a closer look just to make sure.

Got my new Datsun flag up in the garage :mike Picked her up at Mid Ohio IRL race last weekend

Image

Out comes the R200. Pretty easy stuff.

Image

Up on the bench for a closer look

Image

I took the whole thing apart and could not find one thing wrong with it?????

Image

All the bearings look practically new. Well...At least I know its not going to come apart on me on the long trip ahead. Maybe a new preload on the pinion shaft when I hook up the companion flange will fix it. :gotme

Going back together now. Going to replace the brake pads, transmission fluid, go get the wheels rebalanced...Won't be long.

Wow Gordon, just joined the forum to say that I read through all the pages of Betzy's build (twice, taking more and more inspiration each time!) and am a HUGE fan of this car. I just have 2 questions about this build! What did you for steering in the car? Any upgrades besides the AZC knuckles? And are you bringing this monster to JCCS this year so I can finally see it?

Thanks, and congrats on this fantastic build!

Steering is stock except for the AZC knuckles and poly bushings clamping rack and in column joint. I will not be able to make JCCS this year :frown: It's just too long of a distance to make two ways, out and back. Things are pretty busy with me and work as well. I will make it one day.

Bummer! I guess I'll have to be content looking at photos on the internet! Have you driven the car with the addition of all the the techno front suspension? I'm getting a lot of vibration through my wheel with the same suspension setup. Pretty sure I've got issues with the inner tie rods.

This is the first time ive come across this thread. Ive already seen the challenge in vegas. Great job!! I love how with time and patience our classic Z's can still show the young Z's whos boss!!

Your car has become an inspiration to my own 280Z. I can only hope one day its as stunning as your car. Keep up the amazing work!

Reading this makes me motivated to go back in and pull the suspension back out of Bex's Z and redo it (again).

It's unnecessarily harsh, and I have no idea why - Always has been that way. This thread gave me some good ideas, though.

Sheldon - Gordon's schedule prevents him from being online for weeks at a time, so I'm sure he'll reach out if he wants to reply. I have your contact info if he requests it.

Thanks!

Hey Gordon.

Questions for you... Did you ever change out that diff flange and driveshaft flange? I saw that you got the ends for your driveshaft from Powertrain Industries and I was trying to figure out how you knew which Flange Yoke to get. I have the 1989 CLSD with the round flange (you were running the square, last I checked) and I just need to get the Flange Yoke for it to connect to my diff but didn't know where to get the part number or whatever I needed to fit my flange. Also did the driveshaft shop get you the U-Joints and the part they welded to the shaft itself, or should I be looking online for those as well? Thanks for your help Sir.

Hi Carter
I swapped my square flange from the R200 open diff to the CLSD R200 because I already had the drive shaft made for that square flange. The guys at Drive Line 1 ( http://driveline1.com/driveline1/ ) knew what flanges to get for the drive shaft based on the model and year of the car that the differential came out of. They set me up for the original open diff from the S130 (83' 280ZXT) for the aft flange P/N 3102-20. You could call them for the part number that will mate for the 89 Z31 Diff.

About the u-joints. They asked me the HP of the engine. They recommended the Spicer U-joint that was forged. It was good up to 800HP. The P/N is 5-785X My price was $25.07 each.

The weld yoke P/N is N2-28-437

Hope this helps
