I just bought this q45 and have been looking on turning it into a little drift car. I've been trying to do some research on what's worth spending money on. I've been looking to replace/buy intake, exhaust, limited sip diff, coilovers. But maybe more eventually. I'm also looking basic hand tool mods, preferably no welding.

I guess my question is what mods have you done on your q and how theyve worked out for you.

OR really just any advice that you would have given yourself when you started your Q build

Welcome aboard.

Unfortunately, the Y33 will never be "a little drift car."

An intake will provide limited to no gains for the money. Exhaust will have to be fabricated, since there's little if any aftermarket support for the Y33. An LSD is probably available, but it's a heavy car with limited HP, so you'll never really notice it. Coilovers may be available.

The maintenance and upkeep alone should be your first order of business, and will keep you busy for a while. Mods won't do you a bit of good if it's not functioning perfectly to begin with.

The car is actually in pretty good shape I just need to do tension rods. I guess if not actual performance mods then I guess more VIP mods. Things to look for when looking for wheels or alignment setups or aftermarket body parts. Really any advice you could give someone that first got a Q

Lots of reading. We've been here since the second-gen Q was brand new, so spend some time reading old threads on the Y33 chassis. There's a lot to learn!

What’s up guys new member to the forums. I’m planning on dropping $1500 on the ds series bc racing Coilovers On my 99 q45. Babies been running nice for a whole year, want to know if y’all have any experience with this set up. Trying to take Angeles Crest Highway and make it completely mine and change the Q game by storm. Baby slides downhill with blown suspension so a new set a suspension won’t kill, any tips b4 I make this big purchase!!??

Putting Chinese coilovers on Mamaw's luxobarge isn't exactly "changing the Q game by storm."

Welcome aboard.

BTW, don't drive like a wanker. The ACH is for everyone, Playa.

^ this.

I'd bet there's a lot of deferred maintenance that would return the car to as-new performance.

But, it's way cooler to throw knockoff parts on it and pretend it's a canyon carver. ;)

Hi I have a 98 Q45 and don't listen to those naysayers there's plenty of mods for the Q45 just research is hard because no one is very forthcoming with information . Im running s14 frontabs knuckles and outer tie rods . S14 aftermarket adjustable radius , and lateral arms up front . S14 adjustable tension , camber , and trailing arms with stock main a arm on rear . You can revert to 96 q45 front brakes or machine holes on s14 knuckle for 97-01 front brake caliper bracket bolts to pass through snugly . S13 rear coilovers with s14 top mount. I bought two sets of coilovers to achieve this . S13 front coilovers and drilled lower mount holes for s14 knuckle bolt size . S13 and s14 front coilover top mounts share the same bolt pattern but the rears do not . $630 for cheapest Q45 coilovers and $250 for 240's . So I have s13 and s14 for $500 and can use either set if I just swap rear top mounts and drill s13 lower front mounts.

Lol...issue is there's really not much options. If I make it to my next set of struts, I'm doing Megan or whatever Chinese coil overs. I brought direct from infiniti front shocks (without coils), and I wasn't too crazy about them. Perhaps the coils were due too...But it's hard to find a complete kit anywhere. They wanted $1,200 for all 4, I only needed 2. Lots of companies make the rear shocks alone...But the front shocks have to be brought with the whole spindle. I spent $600+ labor. They're still holding up, but these damn Midwestern roads tear s*** up real quick. I've even rode in a Porsche that felt very harsh driving around inner city Saint Louis.

That said: I'm finding many of the things I thought were scary aren't so much anymore. I found new tension rod bushings for like $25 each.. I replaced 2 or 3 rear arms and bushings via eBay. Even Wal-Mart sells bushings by a company called FeBest. Got one for $10. And it's discontinued by infiniti. My $4,000 dealership bill was reduced to like $500 earlier this summer. I thought I'd never get that fixed.

I've gotten to where now I just Google the part and include 98 q45, and I have a plethora of options to choose from. Usually rock auto, eBay (can be tricky, just have to pick carefully), and less frequently Amazon and walmart. I do the parts stores for emergencies or simple things...But they usually never have in stock what I need.

That seems like quite the conversion job. If im not looking to take it to the track you think I can just run BC coilovers for the Y33 and keep suspension to chasis parts pretty much stock?

I am just a lurker here sold my 97'' a while back, but I had the BC's on the car. They are made in USA and very high quality. I had to use spacers with the Rims that I had, they were 19" and the right offset for the car but when we tried to mount them they didn't fit. But the spacers made the ride look very cool to push the wheels out to the edge. With 245/40 19" Michelin Pilot Sports they car handled like a slot car. I had planned to keep the old girl for a longer stetch when I did the BC's and a big selling point was that they are rebuildable. But I took temptation in 2018 and bought a S550 hybrid and the guy that bought my car is still loving it.
