I'm struggling to complete a 7 month project (lot of bad luck) build consisting of an S14 + R33 RB25DET series 1 swap. I have an ACT unsprung 6 puck clutch with the Xtreme pressure plate and I'm concerned about how practical this will be for street driving, autocross, and road racing. I am pretty sure I should have gotten the sprung clutch.

Before I go dumping $1,500 into an Exedy Stage 4 clutch I thought I would get some feedback on what everybody else is using and what they use their car for?

I drive an solid disk twin plate daily. You can get used to anything.

If you are worried about smooth engagement for street driving then stay away from a puck disc. But getting a spring centered disc will not help with smoother engagement. The springs in the disc are to help with torsional vibrations, which is heard as a loud hum. Torsional vibrations always occur, but spring centered discs keep these from being heard.

I've got the Exedy twin-plate in my R32, and I love it.

It's not "too stiff" for daily driving use, and holds up on the track and road course just fine as well....even clutch-kicking to initiate drifts.

I'm actually leaning in the direction of a SPEC R clutch. Anybody have experience with that vs. the Exedy?

I have an RB26, but it's a push-type so I use RB25 clutch kits.....the pressure plate being push or pull being the only real difference....

Anyway, I had the NISMO/Exedy twin-disc at first and it was good until it wore out. Been running a SPEC stage-3 single disc for almost a year and I absolutely LOVE it. Total cost for whole kit was definitely under a grand, and I'm pretty sure it's rated to 500.

I'm searching for a new clutch and found my old thread. Too funny.

I initially went with a spec mini twin and it failed after one year of street driving. It was wayyyy too stiff. Then I switched to a spec stage 3+ and it's been great for many years with one exception... it squeals when cold going into first gear. Searches say it's a common issue. Very annoying.

Going to try something else while I have my engine out for a refresh.
