ok so i am definately changing all the belts next week including the timing belt....very fun i know....anyways my question is for those of you who have ventured to put an underdrive pulley on your J...all the information i have come across suggests that i will also need a new water pump pulley b/c of and i quote:the H.I. Water pump pulley addresses a cooling problem that can surface when you install an Unorthodox Racing, ASP, ATI (street version) or similar sized under drive crank pulley. When you install a smaller then stock sized aluminum CRANK pulley you reduce not only the speed @ which the water pump turns @ a particular RPM but also the speed of the radiator fan. By doing so you doubly reduce your cooling capabilities in the process

fact or fiction i am wondering...any input is greatly appreciated...overall for the under drive pulley either unorthodox or ASP and water pump pulley with belts and timing belt i am quoted at around $350...reasonable or not i have no idea...i do know that my J just hit 105K and i know something needs to be done...

lastly i am wondering if there are any other parts i need to change or take a look at while i am in there...

I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO THANK THIS FORUM AS WELL AS ITS MANY ACTIVE MEMBERS FOR ALL OF YOUR USEFUL INFORMATION AND COMMENTS

This may or may not be of help to you but I recently removed my clutch fan and drove my car for 2 days without a fan installed, at all. The weather was around 30-40 but the car never even made it to the halfway point on my temp gauge. I was actually shocked by this so I tested it further. I parked the car in front of a wall and let it idle to see how long it took to start getting hot... I let it idle for 20 minutes, no fan, parked against a wall, and the temp needle didn't budge! I think these cooling systems in the car are pretty good to begin with and I don't see an underdrive pulley doing any harm to it. ......and yes I know, I would have never gotten away with that if it was hot out, but most cars would have overheated at idle even at those outside temps.

Have you checked to make sure your thermostat is working right?
