So I just recently tried the Longshot 6-pack from Sam Adams. For those of you who aren't familiar with it, Sam Adams holds a contest where people across the nation submit their home brews and two get picked to be put in a six pack, along with one picked from a Sam Adams employee (they are voted on of course).
This year, the three picked were(in order from worst to best IMO):
I don't have a picture of it, but it was a decent ale. Not one of my favorites. I could taste the caramel and raisins (which was surprising cause I didn't think raisins had a very distinct flavor). The reason I didn't like it was it had a VERY heavy mouth feel for an ale. It was very good though, but just not my favorite of the three.
The next was:
It was a standard barley-wine. Nothing too special but I liked it a lot (although I tend to like barley-wine's). It did hide the alcohol quite well for a BW.
The Sam Adams employee made the:
Don't let the "pepper" in the name scare you. This was the BEST tasting beer of the three IMO and my new favorite. It had just a hint of vanilla up front and then the lemon was fresh but not overpowering. At the back is where the "pepper" comes in. It's not like black pepper, its like a "bite" from the hops in the end. Not a bitter bit, but almost like an extra punch of carbonation feel on the tongue that just wraps up the whole thing ending clean and crisp.
Anyone else try this yet?? Get out there and get it NOW!!
