I have owned this 2007 Versa for about a month now. The first time I have driven it at night was last night. I noticed the back up lights do not work. By first doing some research here, I have removed the rear light assemblies and checked the bulbs. All bulbs and sockets check out fine. I am simply not receiving any voltage to the bulbs. I figure there has to be a connector around the transmission somewhere or the shift linkage maybe. Can anyone help?

have you done anything to the car? It's probably just the fuse.

there is a taillamp relay and 10A fuse in the IPDM under the hood. Check out "where are my fuses" on NissanVersaTech.com if you don't know what the IPDM is. That is my suggestion based on your description. Hope this helps.

I have checked all three fuse locations. All fuses are good. No luck yet finding where the switch is that turns on the backup lights. I would imagine it is in the shifter linkage or somewhere on the transmission. Anyone here have a clue?

Update on the backup lights not working. After exhausting my own resources I finally took the car to the dealer. They tell me the switch on the transmission that turns the backup light on is bad. Going to be $280 to install a new sensor. I think it is robbery, but I have no choice. I just don't have to go back there anymore in the future! They also say it will take them 3 days to get the switch, but for 20$ they will get it tomorrow. For those of you that need to know...this car is a 6 speed stick.

I'm the happy owner of a Nissan Versa 2008 stick-shift 6 speeds with 98k miles and I'd like to provide some interesting information about a similar issue I encountered.

I noticed during the night my backup lights didn't turn on when I entered the reverse gear.
A couple of weeks later I got the yellow "Service Engine Soon" on my dashboard and when I was reseting the computer with my scan tool (Craftsman Scan Tool - CanOBD2) I read the P0850 code error ("The signal of the park/neutral position (PNP) switch is not changed in the process of engine starting and driving"...).

Meaning this I started my own troubleshooting with my Fluke multimeter:
- I dismounted both rear reverse bulbs which were OK
- I checked the fuse of 10A located under the hood in a black box called IPDM/ER which was OK
- I asked a car electrician to check the wires and bulb sockets which were OK
- (There is no relay for my back up lights in this model)
- Deeper in the diagnose the reverse switch (Nissan Part Number 32005-00QAE) was in a stuck position not allowing to turn on the reverse bulbs in the back.

I couldn't reach the switch and I do not have very high skills in mechanics so I went to a Nissan dealer who replaced me the switch for $220 (115 labor + 80 part + taxes).

So, if you encounter a similar issue you are warned and be prepared!
