Hey, guys. So I just got my car serviced at the place I bought my car from and it's got an axle leak and the transmission fluid needs to be serviced, which I'm guessing means filled/changed. I couldn't afford to have them fix it at the location, and I'm driving 500+ miles in the morning. Is it at all possible to make the drive in this condition, or is there a place that I can go where they'll just fill the fluid back up? And what kind of price range am I looking at for just that?

Thanks so much!

How old is the car? How many miles are on it? What kind of transmission does it have, a 4 speed auto, a CVT, or manual? As far as axles go, where exactly is this "leak"? Is the place you bought your car a Nissan dealer? How much are they asking for this service? Have these guys been good to you?

I would feel uncomfortable going on a 500 mile trip if there is a question about transmission fluid levels and conditions, especially if it is a CVT. As for the "axle" (are we talking drive shafts here?), I would see to it that they are properly lubed and see if the boots are in good shape -- no cracks, tears, or other places where the lubricating fluid could leak out.

Don't take chances on long trips. Also, familiarize yourself with some of the basics of auto maintanance, such as frequencey of service, fluid levels and properties. A little knowledge goes a long way towards making sure the mechanic isn't blowing smoke up your pantlegs.
