For a long time...I dreamed of having an I30 (4th gen Maxima) with RWD. After doing lots of research, it just wasn't a reasonable thing to do.
Is it possible? Yes. Is it economical? No.
IF you have a LARGE sum of money and the expertise or willingness to learn along the way. It is possible to convert just about any car to AWD.
The "easiest" method would be to get a donor car (think skyline, G35X...etc) and begin measuring to see what will fit and what has to be custom made ($$$).
If you weren't concerned about interior aesthetics or comfort, you could probably get a tube chassis and weld on the altima body panels. Though getting them to look right might be a problem.
