who do you guys think will win this race, my car is a 97 240sx se, 60K miles, injen CAI, HKS hyper cat back, iridium plugs, OBX short shifter, fidanza flywheel ( 11 lb.), and an exedy race clutch. The guy in the prelude has a 2000 prelude with around 20K miles on it, DC headers, and intake, and a muffler, all stock exhaust piping so the headers dont do much. What do you guys think? My car will go, but i have heard that third gear is mean on those VTECs especially the prelude engine. But his is an autostick so he doesnt put all of that nice power to the ground. Tell me what you guys think because he want to race me for a bit of money.

Yeah, the mods should create a Who do You Think would Win forum or something.

This is from a personal experience. I raced my friend's 99 lude with an AEM cold air intake and an Apex muffler and my car is a 97 with injen cai and Apex N1 exhaust. I took him off the line and all the way till like around 80mph where we were even. He would have continue to pull on me if we kept going. So my money would be on the lude then.

i raced a 99 lude 5spd with intake and exhaust and off the line i smoked him but he passed me with ease at about 70 mph. but his is that autostick so if you race him to 70 mph or so you will probably win, just dont go past that. btw my 240 is a 91 and i had intake and exhaust at the time.

i know i can take him off the line. But i have heard that around 80 that vtec really helps them keep going. How hard should i launch my car?

As hard as you can w/o excessive wheelspin. There is a fine balance between bogging and spinning too much. You just have to find it.

i have a 97 lude autostick and a 90 5spd and the nissan is definitely better off the line but i think once it gets above 4000 rpm my honda would rip my 240. the auto lude is supposed to run16 flat with the auto and simple bolt on mods don't add alot of horsepower. i do't know what you run but if he has transmission work i think he would win but if his transmission is stock i think it would be close.

Let's see... a Stock Prelude has a power to weight ratio af about 1:15 and the 240 is about 1:18. Do you really think the bolt ons you have would give you 17% increase in your power to weight ratio? And keep in mind, you have a much lighter flywheel than stock, so you may not get the jump off the line that a 240sx with a stock flywheel might.

As much as our ego's want to shine a light from the heavens down on our 240's, we still need to keep a reality check.

And to anyone who lifts to end a race before you get beat...one word...chicken****.

My previous car was a 95 Vtec lude. It was alot faster than my 91 240, and my 240 hasnt lost once to any other 240's "besides that damn SR powered one...."

240s eat *** in the high end. Plain. Simple. Fact. My friend has a lude and we cruised on the highway at 100 like it was pie, and it was non VTEC. We also did a short drag Him w/ Intake VS my friend w/ I/E. The 240 of coarse took him off the line, but 3rd gear vroom vroom by by 240. You haaave. little chance. Run race gas, and run the 1/8th. And pray.

Im about to race someone i know with a 99 lude with intake. I have a 96S14 with Intake exhaust, springs, shocks, bushings, and its a stick, his is that tiptronic crap. I heard those take away from the horsepower because of all the rotational mass that the torque converter has, and that an auto transmission is pretty heavy. That lightened flywheel of yours is really gonna help you here i think. Just practice a few take offs, and dont let your foot off the gas, just shift as fast as you can, if you can learn to *SAFELY* speed shift then do it.

the prelude is 3000+lbs while the s14 is like 2700+ lbs. 200HP (155lbs torque) FWD vs 155 HP(160lbs) RWD. the 240sx will rape the s*** out of the prelude in a short distance race with the mod you have. the H22a is the fastest reving 4 banger honda has but it's not the best 4 banger due to the technology of the b18c5. He eventually catch up because of VTEC and the extra HP kicking in. other than that, I guarantee you have a chance because the 240 is a 5-speed. I know all this because I use to own a honda HB and learn a lot of what the honda engine is capable of.

tires will play alot in this one....if you have grip and get a hell of a luanch itll take more for him to kep up,a nd fi he cant layunch the best he can, itll make the gap even bigger....be sure to bleed a few pounds off your rears before you race to amke them a lil bit wider

when my friend got his 2002 prelude type sh (vtec) he took it to the track and ran 16 flat, they are heavy cars so you got the advantage in weight but the preludes highend power is whats gonna get you. i'd say the cars pretty much even out, then that leaves it to be up the best driver to see who wins

I automatically have to assume that the Prelude would win given my limited experiences with the 240sx...

(Edit)Oh crap! You said an automatic Prelude? Yeah I really don't have a clue who would win it then. Manual I would guess Prelude... (Edit)
