I have an '02 max with about 77000 miles. I bought the car used and the transmission fluid was never changed. When my car shifts from 2nd to 3rd, the rpms jump from 250 to 1000 rpms before it goes into 3rd gear. I changed the fluid and it's still doing it the same exact thing, it didn't get better at all. Any ideas?

Is it acting different than the day you bought it? The 2k2 has always been kinda slow at shifting.

Ummm, sounds like your transmission is slipping. Mine does it too, downshifting from 3rd to 2nd. It's not good, it's a sign of wear, but since you've caught it early, you may be able to keep it from getting worse. Do a transmission flush and pan drop and keep your fingers crossed.

I agree with the transmission flush as I do them every 60k miles (I have 108k now). Unless the car was abused via the previous owner, he should not be having slipping issues.

Could be the TCM. I've read a few articles about it. I'm at work and out of time, so I'll find you the articles tonight.

Well, I couldn't find the article I was looking for, but I found out why my car shifts so softly. There was a TSB that has never been fixed on my Max. It's the TCM and solonoid valve assembaly. They're bad. I will be calling the dealership tomorrow.

ZEROAG, thanks for your question, it helped me out. I've got to repay the favor, so I'll keep searching for your problem!
