Hey guys i know its been awhile, but I've been busy with my new job and everything, but i am driving my truck again. It may not be finished but its good to be driving it again :) Anyways, i just bought a 5 speed transmission out of an 82 or 83 720 standard cab short bed. I've got everything i need, but what i'm not sure of is if it'll be a smooth swap (like if it will bolt right up with no problems) and if ill need a different length drive shaft. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Have you pulled the carpet and seen a plate on the floor? As far as the drive shaft length, Just measure the orig trans and the replacement. Should tell you all you need to know for length.
Good luck!

Yes i have seen the plate, and with a little research i found that the shifter position should be the same. Ill be picking the transmission up tomorrow and will do some further looking and comparing. i will post up picks of the swap once i start. This will be my first ever time doing something like this and any advice to help me get ready, prepared and any precautions i need to be aware of while doing this will be greatly appreciated.

K quick question for you guys, What exactly are these two switches? I believe the one up near the shifter is for the reverse lights but what does the other one do?

Any information on the switches would be extremely helpful! Thanks :)

Random guess on the switches (would have to check my FSM later) - 1 for neutral/check to allow the starter to try and kick w/o the clutch in - and the other for reverse lights.
