Ok so I am coming into a small/decent amount of money in a short bit. I was contemplating on what to do with it, my personal options were:

BC coiloversCarbon Fiber HoodIntake

Or...

Buy my uncles 280zSwap to a 5 speed manualrebuild engine

Now, I have pretty much decided on working on the Z since I can use that as a fun car (shows, track, cruises etc) and use my altima as a semi daily driver semi show car. I can build the engine up on the 280 a lot easier and cheaper. Just seems like a decent idea to me.I talked to my uncle and he said I can have the car (yes have) if I have a place to work on it. I was pretty stoked, and so that left me with my mind pretty much made up. I talked a a Specialty Z shop down here and they quoted 3k for a new (used) engine, transmission swap and labor. I can cut this down by buying a used transmission and just having them rebuild the current engine. Interior and Exterior I will be working on myself.

Let me know what you think

Drop VQ into Z. Enjoy life.

Lol, but seriously, I would rebuild the Z. Those cars are amazing when they get redone the right way, and it would be way more fun to do that too.

Wow though...that thing needs a LOT of work. I am guessing the engine doesn't work at all?

I think you would be talking 5k in the inside to get it nice looking...

What I would do...look to see if you can find the exact same car, minus engine but decent inside, and get to work trading parts! If you are going to buy the used transmission you would HAVE to do the searching anyway!

I just found this...

how does someone let a car get that messed up. Do they intentionally smash the windows to let the elements in. My goodness.Oh, and rebuild the car for sure.

Rob, my man...GET THE Z!!! When I get my garage built at our new house, I'm "inheriting" the 1979 280ZX that my dad still has the original receipt for!!!. It's the two-seater version, cherry red, black interior, 5-speed manual......and only has 56,000KMs on the clock! I'll be taking a drive down the west coast with it shortly thereafter so you'd better have your Z ready by then buddy!

...is that a Karmann Ghia in the background over there...?

Yes, yes it is. My uncle is a Volkswagen collector/buyer/restorer He has about 15 VW's at his pad right now all waiting to be worked on. That Ghia is the only one in running condition (it's soooo much fun to drive), that is the car I learned how to drive manual on actually.

That car has been sitting there for about 10 years if not more. He never had any real desire to get this car running and has had for sale sign on the window (priced at 750) for as long as I can remember

Engine doesn't work, I am either going to have it rebuilt or just put a completely different engine in there. I know the interior needs a ton of work but that's not priority if I take this car up. I just want it running. Then I'll worry about cosmetics.

That is a sick car, if only my uncles looked like that

I was looking into it, when I swap engines I do want it to be a Nissan, maybe G35 ???

I feel like I'd be neglecting the Alti definitely. All my money would go towards restoring the Z. I actually might need some help but I don't know with what yet. Ya that was me on the bike, I'm actually trying to sell it. My car would have been fixed a long time ago if I had some patience. I bought that bike spur of the moment and I dumped way too much $$$ into it. Trying to sell it if you know anyone

I'm posting it for $650I dumped about $750 into it, have ridden it a few times maybe a grand total of 20-30 miles.

Everything brand new on it except handlebars and frame.

If you (or anyone else on the forum) are going to buy it I will cut the cost down to $500, that's as low as I can go

I almost bought a 280Z before I bought my 05 Frontier in 2004, but I sat inside a few of them and felt claustrophobic. It was just to small for me, but your a slim dude Rob. GL with your plans for the cars.

Why do people do this?

Rob, from all i understand of you... you are having trouble finding a good job, and money isnt something you have a lot of... Why not sit on the new found cash for a while and see if you need it for something...

In this type of economy, i dont think its wise not to have a job and piss away what could be rent/food money on a big expensive toy... Look at what happened with the bike...

Just my .02

Hahaha, ya Brian you're right, I know I should be saving and stuff. That bike was an impulse buy, I don't need to sell it it would just be better for me. I only wanted to spend about 350 on a bike and I spent around 750.

I will actually put this money away for a bit now that you say that. At least until I get a job, it'll be a deal with myself

It's no bike in particular. I bought the frame off some guy in Long Beach, the frame was pretty old. I don't remember the name but it was from France. Everything else is miscellaneous parts I picked up (decent parts) I can get names of everything if you want

My initial plan was to get coilovers and maybe intake and exhaust. But then I really started considering the Z. It's not like I'm going out to go buy a car that needs a lot of work, I'm being given a car (if I take it) to put some work into.

I still have quite a bit of time on my hands, school just started up again so I need to make sure I can handle that first and then start looking for a job again.

$500!!!??? sorry no deal rob lol. i dont even do cardio at the moment. and good idea you should save your money. maintaining two cars is gonna be way too expensive. just take the z but dont fix it up until you have some real money coming in. the a/c is good enough lol

i would do what u said n go w/ the coils BUT i wouldnt take the z its gonna be more money thann u wanna dish out TRUST ME ive already been down this road but decided not to bc itll take to much money. Me being an accounting major i like numbers sooooo i plan it out b4 i do it like if u wanna do this go look up how much it would all cost. Ull s*** ur pants wen u see how much and include paint also lol. Do s*** to ur coupe and enjoy it f it go buy an intake for now and decide on the other stuff u know. I would say get exhaust "used theres a million posted up all the time n u save alot of $" and dont get the coils just keep the springs. Coils are nice but mad $. Ull be happy wen u get the exhaustand intake ITS AMAZING

Both my parents are in the banking industry so I know about numbers, have always been good with numbers. I like to plan things out, but I get super sidetracked and spend money I was supposed to save.

I found a transmission for 300, and a engine for 500. I just wanted it running, and I was going to paint it myself for now. I'm most likely not going to go this route after all the thinking I've been doing about it lately.

Come on Jonathan you know you want it
