My starter is deader than dead. Had it tested at Advance and nothing. I went to an auto-electric place and they told me that Bosch was the only one who makes the correct motor for it and it's $153. Now, I know a lot of people rebuild them themselves with about $15 worth of parts. Anyone ever do this and care to share how they did it? Or point me to a resource on it? I just don't know what parts I would need to order, etc...

I rebuilt mine for the cost of some lube, forgot what I used but I found out later it isn't "good enough" (but it's working fine anyways).

disassemble, being careful not to drop the heavy end out of it on the floor, look at the FSM exploded diagram, putting it back together is tricky too..

when you have it apart, first check continuity on the brushes etc (I think thats in the FSM) if they seem ok, try using some sandpaper to clean up then smooth out the brushes where they would contact with the spinning gizmo section (I forgot the technical term). Also, clean alot w/ electrical cleaner stuff. Then put lube where it's supposed to go, and carefully reassemble.

Sorry its so vague but it's been so long I can't remember the details.

If something has actually failed (burnt out solenoid or such) then y ou'll have to find parts or take it someplace that rebuilds them.. but in my case both of them were just from bad contact / being seized.
