Everytime our 08 versa gets at around 1/4 tank the car will shut down the stereo and start chiming. At first it freaked us out but found after you fill the car up it stops.

Is there some easy fix or do we have to go to the dealer?

Wow! Gotta be a dealership issue -- I've been down to the "need gas" light a coupla times . . . no chime, and stereo keeps going strong!

My condolences

What the hell? Really? I've *never* seen that. I *always* wait until the light comes on to even think about filling up, but all that happens is a light...

Ditto, I have an SL and it doesn't do that... I wonder if it's part of a package... do you have the convenience package?

Yeah I have the convenience package. The blinker and stereo turn down really low and then the car starts beeping. It stops beeping when you stop, but starts beeping again everytime you accelerate to let you know you are wasting more gas??? It beeps so loudly that it seems like more of a safety hazard than a convenience.

I found the beep you are talking about but it is not a for a low fuel chime it is a chime to inform you the you E brake/ Hand Brake is still engaged. I would check to make sure that the Hand Brake is fully disengaged and then put in drive and check for said chime. If after checking your hand brake and chime is still there then take to dealer to be serviced for faulty hand brake sensor.

Thanks! But I had that happen once. That lights up the brake warning light also, not the gas light. When this happens the emergency brake is all the way off and the light is not on for the emergency brake. Only the gas light comes on. I'm just going to take it to the dealer.

The light comes on when the fuel level is low (about 2 gallons left) because the fuel cools the fuel pump in the tank. If it gets too low repeatedly, the pump may burn out prematurely.
