any techs out there? extensive injection problem

Hi guys.. just wondering what would cause the following..v6.. has two cats coming from engine.. one is in prestine condition, the other was soo clogged up that it took the cat going to the exhaust pipe as well.. it looks like the injection mixture in this part of the engine was f'ed up... what would you say is the most possible fault for this.. the ECU? the engine harness? the oxygen sensors on that cat were really dirty but my mechanic thinks they're fine. any suggestions? .. and the car is not under warranty im afraid. :S .. i will not have a full diagnostic before i replace the cats and thats going to take me a while.. i dont have that kinda money but would like to know whats ahead.
