My j has recently started leaking antifreeze. It is not doing it while the car is running or driving and not when I first shut it down. After ~ 4-5 hours It starts to leak and is dripping small puddle maybe 3-4 oz. I can tell its coming down off where the pump is but want to know if anyone else has had this problem before I go and buy a pump and find out it is hose. thanks.

97K miles and you've owned the car for three years? What year is it? Do you know when the timing belt was last changed?

Maybe it's time to replace the WP, all belts, tensioner and idler bearings, front oil seals, thermostat, clean between the radiators, flush the transmission/cooler and replace its' filter. It's how I got to know my J30 a lot better, and a short while later a fuel injector failed, which led to a new level of understanding, but mine's a '93 with 173K miles and counting (again).

If it's a leaky water pump, it could also lead to coolant getting on the timing belt and it possibly jumping, which would be very bad. The couple of hidden hoses under the timing cover are very straight and short.

Timing belt is cogged and will not slip if it gets wet.

So is it an all or nothing type deal, or could a timing belt jump a tooth if it is loose/old/worn/stretched or slippery/lubricated?
