am having trouble with my 87

i am having trouble with my 87, i would go to start it and it would start fine but if you cut it off and tried to start it again it wouldnt start.i have already replaced the starter and now it wont even do anything.i tried to pop the starter but the starter only spins,it wont even spin the flywheel,i really dont know what to do.i can use as much input as i can

sheered teeth on the flywheel? what was it doing before you replaced the starter? and when you say "pop the starter" are you talking about arcing the solenoid or are you referring to popping the clutch aka push starting?
