Noise (similar to hole in muffler) coming from the front end around 1200-2000 RPM, and slight vibrations in the gas pedal.

research says it has to do with CVT, but transmission was replaced under warranty just last year.

Inspected exhaust system, no significant rust or holes at all.

Any ideas?

How much throttle, decel, accel or cruising? Loaded or level ground?

I have a 2008 2.5 Coupe (5-speed MT) and I've been hearing what sounds like a small leak in my exhaust manifold for a couple of weeks now. Same location in the engine as you're hearing it. Anyone know if this is a known problem with 2.5 Coupes?

Level ground

Ill hear it get loud while accelerating into 1200rpm and beyond that up to 2000 as mentioned. If Im cruising in between the noise is still there, but maybe not as loud.

noise sounds like as if I had a hole in my muffler/exhaust system, but this is coming from the front. ANd I barely have any rust underneath so Im sure it has nothing to do with the exhaust system.

I keep reading its the CVT, but ironically I had the transmission changed about a year or two ago just before the warranty expired. Im only at 106000km.

Could you post a youtube clip of the noise?

Also you have a 2010 that was still covered under warranty?

Yes, a video would be helpful. You might simply have a cracked flex-pipe, they'll often be a murmur at idle or cruise but "open up" when accelerating because the added torque rocks the engine in the mounts. Cracks can be invisible at first, too, if the steel mesh covering isn't broken yet. However, you'll generally feel pulses of exhaust escaping through the mesh from underneath with the engine running..

update: its the front left wheel bearing

noise was loudest at 75kmh, not nearly as loud below 50 or over 100 kmh

That's kind of odd, usually front bearings make more noise the faster you go. Rears are different, you can leave the noise behind at highway speeds and it can seem to reduce the volume. Puzzling.

Its what the dealership said it was..... I havent got it fixed yet (they wanted to charge me $575). I order the part, and will have it done at a local garage.... After watching a youtube they seem very difficult to remove.

I had a new transmission put in in April 2019, was still under warranty then. Therefore the new one wouldve still been under warranty if that were the problem, but now it doesnt seem so.

Like I said, puzzling. I hope it isn't a misdiagnosis. If you can get the front end in the air, turn off the VDC and run the wheel up to speed. A stethoscope (or in a pinch, a long screwdriver with the handle held to your ear) on the inside of the hub should reveal any noise. Healthy Nissan wheel bearings are almost dead silent at any speed, so any rumbling/ticking/clacking you hear means a bad bearing.

well as mentioned, you can feel a vibration the gas pedal, and noise is similar to having a hole in the muffler. Start to hear it around 60kmh and peaks loudest at 75kmh, and then you dont hear it anymore passed 105 kmh or so.

Not exactly classic wheel bearing behavior. Usually bearing noise will be present at all speeds but louder as you go faster, and the typical deep "hum" from a bearing doesn't much resemble the drone of a bad muffler. I'm still wondering if you don't have a cracked flex pipe, with maybe a bad mount that caused it also giving you pedal vibration.

I'll put that one into the "offbeat behavior" file. Thanks for the intel!

I’m still puzzled by the $575 estimate. We’re they using a bearing made of platinum? It’s a 1 hour job. Prices like this are what gives dealerships a bad name.

Sadly, that's true.
