it beats the hell out of the carpet on it right now.
The dash is horrible on the top. Calling it badly cracked would be generous. The dash pad hides it and cleans it up quite well lol.

Thanks! And you're welcome to come hang out anytime
bobotech wrote:Jerry, to be totally blunt, and not that it matters at all coming from me since I'm a nobody, but I never really respected you much until you got this little truck and have been making miracles out of pennies.

Awesome freaking work on the super cheap.

The interior looks great. I'm extremely impressed. I bet you could turn around and sell this thing to a fellow classic Datsun fan for 2500-3500 bux.

Very very nice!
Wow....thanks

I figured instead of making a new thread I'd just add to this one as anyone who hasn't seen the before wouldn't appreciate the after

Anyway, after I clay barred and 3 stepped my 280Z the other day, it made my truck look horrible. So I clay barred and 3 stepped the truck a couple days ago. Long tedious job for such a little truck, but it needed it and it greatly helped to improve the finish. You'd never imagine that this was the same "flat green" heavily oxidized truck.

reflections ftw

Also....threw some go fast type goodies at the truck a few weeks back. Managed to score a L16 header that fit up real nice....now I just need to get an exhaust to go with it because the truck is stupid loud on an open header lol

tearing it apart

old rusted stock junk

old vs. new

Also managed to pick up this old school hi-po intake manifold, just need to do a little modification to make my weber carb fit up to it correctly

Anyway....hope you enjoyed and sorry it took so long for another update

I have considered it....two problems with that though. First of all I can't find them in 6 lug and secondly, they're not really in the budget. Remember, I only paid 500 bucks for the truck.

When you bought the truck for $500, it was a great buy... now you're making it look like a steal! I like the patina of the old (but shiney) finish.

Holy old thread.

Anyways might as well add some new info to this one

I've managed to source a Datsun 1600 fender emblem to replace the broken one on my truck

Found a new old stock hood emblem since my 521, like most of them, was missing the hood emblem

Picked up a spare set of headlight bezels and a grill that are a little straighter than mine and I polished them up nice

Got a set of wiper arms so I'll have some functional wipers

I've been looking at wheels for it, might actually be going to check out some 15x10 old school "turbine" style wheels this weekend. Also planning on slapping some fender mirrors on it in the spring and I'm working on locating a side draft intake manifold with dual carbs for the L-series. So all in all it should be a busy year for the truck.

Ended up renting a place to store the 521 indoors for the winter so it isn't subjected to anymore salt. Here's a couple snaps of it on the way out to the storage garage

If anybody knows of a 521 in a junk or salvage yard near them there are quite a few items that I need so if you could help out I'd greatly appreciate it as there are zero datsuns for parts anywhere around me

Can't wait for spring

I love that truck, it gets better and better with every picture post.

I would gladly stab you in the face for it. No offense, it was meant to be a compliment. IT'S FRIGGIN' BEAUTIFUL MANG.

How much money do you have into it now if you don't mind me asking? About a grand or so?

My Mom is older, 68, but she always liked cars but could never afford something fun with having 7 kids. So now we decided to build her something fun to cruise in with all of us

Found a set of old school 6 lug 15's in a very low offset on my local CL last week and went out to look at them today (I went into run down hillbilly hell about an hour away and I'm sure Steph will chime in with her feelings on the area haha). They're straight, clean, and were a banging deal.

So I brought them home and went to work on cleaning all the mud and heavy corrosion/oxidation off of the wheels to make them somewhat presentable.

Most people local call them "turbine wheels"

Steph showing off her skills with steel wool

Faces of the spokes and the face of the lip cleaned up nice and appear to be a machined finish, you can also see the before and after of scrubbing the area between the spokes with some steel wool

Thinking about painting the areas between the spokes black or a dark grey...what do you think?

Even a picture of me doing work!

Oh by the way....did I mention that they're so wide that they're almost square?

Wonder if they'll fit haha

Fender mirrors should be in shortly, I'll add some pics of those as well

Very cool rims.

I was going to suggest painting the in between parts black or dark gray just before I saw your posting.

The contrast with the polished upper edge would look quite cool and modernize the old school rims just right I think.

Make sure you put some cool thick sidewall tires on the rear so that it has a nice rake to it.

Maybe even white letter tires.
