Took it out of storage this week and cleaned it up. Gonna get cracking on the carbs soon and make new brake lines (one blew out driving it to the house)

Just an FYI to anyone doing brake lines on a 521. Contrary to what Autozone/Advanced/Napa will tell you, the brake line fittings are NOT metric. The fitting size is 3/8 - 24 :)

Good to see this truck once again! I am getting mine ready to come out of storage in the next month then it's off to the body shop to have some deer damage sorted out.

Ran new brake lines and removed the aftermarket fuse block and wired in a factory fuse box today! Getting closer to being back on the road for spring :)

Installed a pair of old school mesh headlight covers on the truck

Engine bay shot with the stock fuse box wired in

Also started on repairing/reconditioning the bench seat in the truck. Here's a pic of it stripped down to the frame and spring cover
Image

Cracked support bar...that would explain why it was so bouncy on the drivers side. Have since welded that up
Image

Adding some new padding. 1" thick top and bottom
Image

Image

Reinstalling the cover
Image

Back in the truck! Its supportive and comfortable now. Not bad for a project that cost only $28.00 :)
Image
Image

Cleaned up the lug wrench pouch that was under the seat...looks pretty good for 40+ years old
Image

None of my marker lights worked as the housings were rusted out and falling apart. Sourced some used ones and wired them up to get things working as designed

That's awesome Jerry. I remember when you bought this truck and started this thread. Glad to see what you have done with it.

Going to sync the carbs Monday after work and tune it then hit the road :)

I'm pretty happy when I see there's been a new post in this thread. Nice job on the carbs.

Decided to replace the shocks on the truck as they have seen better days and may have been original. The rears were leaking and fronts not far behind.

Decided to go with KYB GR-2's as I was looking for an OE quality replacement and I have had good experiences with KYB products in the past.

Image

Wasted front shocks, got a little torn up taking them off as I had to use some large pliers
Image

Image

On to the rear suspension....
Image

Rear shocks were wasted...the one on the bottom can be extended and compressed by hand but had no rebound and the middle one would not compress or extend as it was siezed and not operational
Image

Rear shocks installed

Yesterday was producive, swapped in a different distributor, installed new NGK plugs, changed the oil, replaced a faulty wheel cylinder and sadly managed to blow out a rear brake line. Looks like I'll be running rear lines this week.

Considering picking up a BRE front airdam for a 510 and fitting it up to the truck. Opinions?

Picked up a different set of wheels for the truck with a slightly more aggressive offset on the rear for a little better fitment. Very different in style from my Western Turbines but same physical size at 15x10.

Brand is unknown, maybe somebody can shed some light, they're supposedly from the 70's.
Image

Healthy lip of about 5 3/4 inches
Image

Definitely fit well, lip is a little over 1/2" past the flare
Image

Refinished them by polishing the lips and painting the centers black

First fitment with tires....

Holy crap I love this truck!

I'm pretty sure those wheels are American Racing - Outlaw wheels, but there were a few other companies like Pacer that have offered similar styles I think. Regardless, they look really good on it!

Thanks! I love it too! Definitely unique :)

Noticed the other day that I had no charging voltage and ran the battery down. Turns out the alternator and voltage regulator are good as I traced down a bad ground in the harness. Free is good!

Sadly sprung another brake fluid leak though. Off to the parts store tomorrow to get some parts ordered up.
