Sorry for the thread revival. Went through the entire thread. Great build up. Just getting into 620, so one near my place which is for sale...maybe doing a move.

Finally...a long overdue update!

Decided to replace the rockers and take on some rust issues this winter.

Image

After cutting off the L side rocker...found the backing panel to be serious swiss cheesed, need to address that

Fitting up the new rocker panel

Cut out the old panel and replaced it...much more rigid

Since the drivers side is just about done....its time to tackle the floor and then on to the other side. The drivers side floor is horrible!

Made some more progress today on the drivers side floor

Fits really nice, going to get it welded in over the next few days as time allows

Nice job man, keep the pics coming :)

What kind of welder and steel size do you use for stuff like this?

Thanks!

We used 1/8" steel for the backing panels for the rockers because they tie a lot of things together and I wanted something thick and strong to section into the cab. The floor pan is made out of 16 gauge steel and we shaped it by hand and various notches as I don't have a roller. The rocker panels are NOS Datsun parts that I tracked down so I'm not sure on the metal thickness of those. Really you could use any size you want as long as its something you can work with to fit the shape you need. Anything is thicker/better than the stock floor pans though, they're paper thin on all the old Datsuns.

As for the welder, we're using a Lincoln Electric Mig.

I saw these on teh Fabo, but I hadn't seen the refinishing of the bed. This truck looks awesome. Looking good Jerry!

You should have used an old speed limit sign to redo the floorboard. I love that kind of s***.

Dude I've got so little money into this truck...its such a budget project, easy to build $500 cars lol

I had a bunch of Ohio license plates in there with self tappers as a ghetto patch for awhile, just wasn't cool with chunks of rust falling off the floor when I shut the door lol. So I figured I'd address it and fix it right :)

What are you hoping for in a "finished product"? I can't imagine you want anything "Concours" worthy. Any plans for a heart transplant?

Just a fun little rat truck. I wouldn't mind throwing a front air dam on it at some point and redoing the interior. I'd also like to upgrade to modern brakes (disks) at all four corners. Other than that just replace stuff as needed. No real crazy engine swaps planned, at some point I may build an L20 and toss it in there (currently has an L16), but I definitely want to stick with the old school Datsun theme. :bigthumb:

Can I just steal everything you've done and apply it to the '73 620 i'm getting?
Seriously, i ran into this thread this morning on accident, and went through and read the entire 11 pages word for word.

I love this truck. A lot.

Anything new?

I'm considering a '69 520. I think you've just sealed it.

Sorry I've been away from this thread and nico so much! I recently redid the front end (new shoes, drums, hardware, bearings, seals, and adjusters). I hope to rebuild the carbs and jet them before spring. After that spray the rockers as they're still black and then drive it! Any requests or suggestions? :)
