As much as a bummer it was to have the starting issues, we got a lot accomplished. We had to deal with rain on and off for the majority of the day. We'll get the truck altogether for the show.

Nice! I have the same Datsun valve cover. Infact, I have a complete L16 head sitting around collecting dust. The truck looks amazing! 521's are King **** of **** Mountain!

Nope...not going with a BRE type paint scheme.

Nah, not on this one, it had some pretty deep scratches and a lot of years worth of deposits in the metal. Plus I can't have too much shiny stuff on an old $500 truck lol

Yeah, I've been meaning to pick some up from the parts store. Maybe when I stop to get paint today or tomorrow.

Ding ding ding we've got a winner

I'm going to do a Japanese rising sun setup on it. Or that's the plan atleast. My artistic level is like -20, so we'll see how it comes out.

Artistic ability is no match for a straight edge and circle.

Stencils fix all your problems.

Awesome truck Jerry, keep up the good work!

That's what I was thinking. Can't go wrong with the rising sun on a vintage japanese vehicle.

First off....keep in mind that I'm not artsy at all and I suck at anything of the sort. So forgive the imperfections and such.

So, without further delay....here it is

Should look great on the truck I'll toss it on tomorrow or the next day most likely.

What's everyones opinion?

Looks sick, but I would get the red outlined in a black pinstripe if you know anybody that can pinstripe.

DUDE Thats awesome !!!!!!!!!!! It really turned out better then what I expected, good work man. I agree with Oatmeal, I think it'd be even better with the black outline.

That valve cover looks badass. Do you plan to clearcoat it? I think it might look a lot better with a little more depth to the paint. I dont know about the pinstripe, it might look okay, but in the picture above, its a little too thick.

looks good except the last stripe coming over the front connects to nothing. so that one looks kinda weird. other than that it looks great!

While that looks freaking awesome, you could lay down tape to do each line and keep it straighter. Just an idea for next time. I've seen how much of a perfectionist you are and I know you'll try again a couple times

Cool paint job however the angles aren't qute right.

The center circle is supposed to have the rays coming out of it in a equally spaced sunburst pattern. Here is what I mean: Now if you look at your value cover, the bottom red ray appears to be flat against the center of the sun instead of coming out of it like a bicycle spoke.

That is why it looks a little off to the naked eye.

But very interesting concept and idea.

See I was thinking the same thing, but when I initially taped off the rays in the manner as on the flag, they wrapped around the cover and intersected on the other side. The only way to make it function with the sun on one side was to change the angle of the "rays" I know its less than perfect, and if I was more of an artistic mind I could probably have come up with something. But its good enough for me for now. May redo it at some point

This saturday, the 16th, from like 10am - 5pm if I remember correctly. When are you working that day?

You could probably fix it without redoing the hole thing.

Just make the center red circle bigger.

Not taller, keep it the same height but make it bigger so instead of seeing almost the whole red center, you see only half of it. But it would fix th perspective quite a bit. All you would need to do is to paint the red red larger.

Here is a really crude attempt at fixing your existing valve cover (you think you are a bad artist, Ha!, I'm a much worse artist than you!):
