Already done the Akebono BBK? Please chime in on fitment question.

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Hi guys. Hoping some of you who have already completed the Akebono BBK can give me some insight. I got my setup - new front calipers, pads and rotors- installed on the driver side and tested the wheel fitment. No go. Not even close to fitting. My EX37 has the factory 19” wheels and I’ve added 12mm spacers.

I’ve always understood that it fits with the factory 19’s. Any thoughts?

Haven't installed the kit. Just recently purchased a QX50, and have been looking at brake system upgrades. I did notice that one of the suppliers of this kit stated that aftermarket wheels are required, and they provide a pdf file of a template to check clearances.

Concept Z Performance was the supplier.

That’s perfect - thanks. Wonder why their kit requires the custom brackets? That’s the first I’ve seen of that.

Regardless, I’m going to print one off and test the template.

Is the Akebono kit different from say, a rockauto caliper/rotor/pad kit from a G37XS ? The rotor size is 350/330 (I think) and the calipers look similar. And they must fit behind 19 inch G wheels, yes? Wasn't aware there is that much difference between a QX/EX 19 inch wheel, and a 19 from the G model.

Sorry guys I'm really busy these days. Hope this helps:

Adapter brackets not needed. My boyfriend bolted them right up.
HOWEVER some trimming or removal of the brake dust shield is required for the rotors to fit.
Mine fit under 18-inch M37 winter wheels and of course my 19-inch 370Z wheels fit no problem whatsoever. :dblthumb:

Do you know what the offset is on the m37 wheels? My factory 19’s aren’t even close, which was a let down. I downloaded the template from concept z and even with the 12mm spacer, I’m a half inch off.

The spoke shape on those z wheels you have are really angled out (not sure how to better describe it) where the 19’s are more arched on the inside, which is where they hit. Wish I knew someone with the 19” G37S wheels that I could test fit. 😕

As far as the Rockauto calipers go, they’re the same and should work fine, based on what I’ve been able to find.

Saw this caliper setup behind a set of factory 19s. A G37 coupe with the 15 spoke wheels. Offset is 43, width is 8.5 inches. Offset on the factory QX50 19s is 47. Must be a big difference in spoke curvature. I have both wheels, but no tires mounted on the G wheels yet.

Does anyone know if you need new brake lines? or the oem one on the car lines up just fine? if you do need new brake lines which model to get them from?

also, the rotors are 355mm for the sports brake right?

i'm wondering if anyone tried the oem 18 journey wheels with a bunch of spokes on them, wondering if that will clear the calipers, they seem to be really flush on the outside not much of a curvature inside.

You dont need new brake lines, just a new banjo bolt ( shorter ).

Can someone enlighten me which year/model Akebono BBK will fit in the 2016-2017 Infiniti QX50? I have a 2017 QX50 AWD with the factory 19 inch wheel package. Anyone know if the front BBK will clear the 19 inch factory wheels? I've done several biger caliper swaps in the past with other car brands so don't mind tackling this project if its a direct fit (i.e. no need for wheel spacers or modified caliper brackets). Thank you for any help.

Front wheels will not fit, you'll need spacers.

Dzionassi - Is your QX50 still on the factory stock 19 inch wheels and are you using wheel spacers? If so, what size spacers? I'm assuming the brake rotors to use is any of the G37 ones, right? Thanks for all your help.

Thanks Dzionassi for your help. I plan on doing this BBK once my factory warranty runs out. I saw in your signature that the you have the Hotchkis say bars installed. I'm assuming you got the ones for the AWD 2008-2013 Infiniti G37, right? Its direct fit with no modification? Thats another mod I will partake once warranty runs out.

Yes, 22443 Hotchkis, and yes there is basically no modifications need, had to use 4 washers (2 per side) for plastic mud guards ( wind deflectors)...

The Hotchkis Swaybars (Model: 22443)....any issues with squeaks? I read on some of the Infiniti G37 forums that it may require one to use the zerk sillicone grease on the supplied sway bar bushing once every 1/2 year or so. That's not too big of a deal, except when I wash my car, I like to wash the underneath for salt/grime. Afraid that will wash away the sillicone more quickly, which will result in needing to grease it more often.

Yes, front will squeak if not lubricated, 6 months is about right time frame. Rear sway will last little longer without lubrication. And washing will not remove silicone faster, dont worry about it.

Thanks Dzionassi. Its odd the front would wear faster even though it appears the sway bar brackets are covered from road debris and water splashing by the plastic cover.

I just put in the Big brake kit (Power Stop) that is similar with the Akebono. Everything looks good. However, after bleeding the brakes twice, the braking still feels mushy. There is no leaks or anything. Did any of you with the BBK have issues with your brake fluid bleeding? I’m at a loss for what I am doing wrong.
