ok, being in a hurry, i left the entire plenum and runner assembly with all hoses intact, so im in better shape than i thought

and after looking at my engine, and studying the coolant diagram in the FSM,now im left with a few questions

intake side, rear: those 2 coolant outlets, those appear to be flowing out from the engine? (the only thing that makes sense if the water pump is pushing into the block on the other side)

and if so, then does one of them go to the oil cooler and the other go to the heater core inside the car?

if thats all good, then what is the thing right above the thermostat, and in front of the throttlebody? its black with a hookup for a hose of some type, but theres nothing left to hook up (its too big to be a vacuum line, looks like coolant... but where does it get its feed/output from/to)

i can post up pics as soon as i get off work

btw, i found the dipstick tube thing, just need an alternator tensioner now (and find my harness) anyone have an alt tensioner?

and where does that 'other' opening on the valve cover go to? not the ventilation one, the one pointed down, towards the rear of the engine (forgot which side its on, and its only on one side)

1st pic is indeed the booster. The second pic is the air regulator. You need to run a big vac line from your cold pipe into the bottom of the regulator (the thing below your throttle body that you have circled) The other port is a vac port that needs to be T'ed into the coldpipe -> regulator tube. The bottom you have the right side correct, and the left one goes to a coolant port on the lower US drivers side of the head, kind of on the back. It is hard to describe, but just feel around and you should find it.

yes thats the brake booster.

those two with ?? should be connected together with a big T going to your cold pipe. Its idle air stuff.

and yes, thats how the oil cooler is routed.

so the one i have marked as heater send, that one goes to somewhere on the back of the head

that brings up another few questions:

then where does the heater get its feed from? i have the return line all set (the one that crosses the firewall.. thats teh return, right? it flows into all the other coolant returns)

and while im thinking of it, the outlet on the back of one of the valve covers... not the ventilation one, but the one pointing downwards.... what is that for/where does it connect to?

edit>the only thing on the back of the head is some small freeze plugs and some threaded holes for bolts to mount brackets.... was it on the back of the exhaust side, or the side of the back?

ok. that one right above the word "heater send" is one of your heater hoses too. It doesn't matter which is the send and which is the return. I looked the other day at which way mine were, but I can't remember. Search, I answered it in another kid's post.

The outlet on one of the valve covers (I assume you mean the one on the intake valve cover on the bottom?) It goes to the oil filter mount area... Its a breather hose, there should be a matching breather hose around there somewhere. I don't know exactly how yours is plumbed because you have an oil cooler and I don't. Go take a clearer picture of the oil filter mount and cooler and I'll tell you exactly what goes where.

thats cool

i forgot to take a pic of that thing too, was wondering what it went to

so the outlet by the oil cooler is the block, venting to the valve cover, then that breathes out to the plenum via a pcv valve

got it

and the heater send piece actually goes to the heater like i thought? great i might be able to get it all together this week.... and now that i have all the hoses all mapped out, i might wait to install and do the braided stainless lines now..... or maybe just new silicone hoses .... mmm.... either way, im well on the way now, thanks

no problem Heater hoses are so easy! They basically run straight from the engine to the heater core on the firewall! No weird stuff like those 90deg bends they have to run on the SR hoses...

im getting specs on the braided stainless now, if i can get fittings for everything, im just going to run the SS before i drop the engine in... if it comes to it, i have a bunch of silicon to use instead until the next time i pull my engine (when its time to put in arp rod and main studs for the big bad ceramic ballbearing turbo.. probably around march)

speaking of, im trying to figure out now what fitting type would you use to connect the braided hose to a clamp-on type flared outlet (like the normal silicon hose and clamp system)
