Another quick update:
Yesterday, Stacey went in to get the results of some tests that were done Tuesday... They took some blood tests, did a scan and some X-rays.
As you guys know, her cancer markers early on (April) were up in the 2000 range. That's ridiculously high and basically means "the needle is pegged".
People die of cancer LONG before they ever see 4-digit numbers.
After surgery, her markers had gotten down to 129, and at last count was at 27. Still terrifyingly high, as normal is zero to 5, and anything over 8 indicates aggressively-growing cancer cells.
So she's halfway through a 6-month, incredibly intensive chemo regimen.
Yesterday's number?
8.5 (yes, eight and a half).
This basically means that in just 3 short months, she has gone from having a pretty dismal prognosis (i.e. a matter of months to live) to entering remission.
I can't express how exciting this news is to us, and how happy we are to share it with you guys. You've all been awesome to us, and I credit your prayers, encouragement and positive thoughts with her apparent healing.
At this point, she's got to finish out the remaining course of treatment. However, her oncologist says that if she dips below 8 or so, they will give her a "vacation" from treatment for a while and see if she remains in remission.
Thank you all for your prayers. There's no other way to explain her progress.
NICOmom sends her love.
