Dude, Glad to hear she is making it through the surgerys okay.

My step mother had cancer, and the Chemo got it, but the chemo also gave her cirrosis of the liver. Not good. Transplants suck. And after the transplant, she is still having major problems, and in very poor health.

You need to educate yourself on that. It dont happen often from what I hear, and with luck, you guys will not deal with it. But, just a heads up.

Thanks all for the well-wishes, prayers, support and positive thoughts.

Here's an update, since several folks have asked (and since updates will be few and far between now that she's out of the hospital and starting chemo):

Stacey came home yesterday, and it is awesome to have her back home where she belongs after 8 days. The kids and dogs were going nuts, they missed their mama...

She looks great, and aside from losing quite a bit of weight and being tired, you'd never know she was sick. She'll be starting her chemo in 2 weeks, and it's gonna be a real aggressive treatment.

But for now, we're just gonna enjoy having her home and make sure she's comfy and doesn't have to do any work. Hopefully she'll pop in here and chat with you guys herself soon.

By the way, Stacey and I ask (more like DEMAND) that each of you go and schedule a full checkup and physical with your doctor ASAP. Her oncologist said they're seeing a much higher incidence of colon cancer (which is virtually incurable if it spreads) in people as young as 17.

We love you guys.

Yes! Both my wife and I (we are in our forties though) have colonoscopies scheduled for this summer.

Glad to hear that Stacey is home!

Thats funny my wife made me get a physical when I turned 40. She also made me get an colonoscopy and a stress test. The worst thing about the colonoscopy test is drinking some weird awful tasting crap the day before the surgery. Then getting stomach cramps and feeling like crap! Lucky me I don`t need another one until I turn 50!!

Dear Greg & Stacey

As I sit and read all of these posts it is sometimes hard to believe that this is just a car site, and as it turns out it is much more than that. My wife walked by and said you doing car stuff again i said no not today she sat down and started reading and couldn't believe what she was seeing (she was in tears). From our Family to yours with all our prayers we all hope Stacey recovers quickly and with as little discomfort as possible!!!

My mom is suppose to have surgery done once a year to remove any cancerous poloyps. I remember her drinking that stuff and feeling bad. When she does the surgery now, she gets the pills to take instead of drinking the liquid. She says the pills aren't that bad and doesn't make her cramp so bad.

My granny decided to get colon check as well. She took the pills and said it wasn't that bad either. They found nothing wrong with her so I'm thankful for that.

Hope Stacey continues to well through this all.

Thanks Kalata crew and Brini!

Quick update (not a major one)... We met with the oncologist yesterday and he laid out the plan for treatment.

Stacey will be getting the MOST aggressive regimen of chemotherapy you can put a human being through (I've been doing some research )... Since she's not a candidate for resection (liver surgery where they remove tumors), they have to treat it with the chemo.

She'll be starting this Wednesday. Treatments will be Wednesday and Thursday (and some Fridays), every other week, for at least 6 months. She has a port (which they implanted a couple weeks ago) with a catheter that dumps the medication directly into the main vein that supplies blood to the liver, so it can have maximum effect and minimize side effects.

It's likely that Stacey will lose most (if not all) of her hair, so she's having a tough time reconciling that, but the support and information they're providing her throughout her treatment is top-notch.

She'll be the hottest bald chick ever.

We're encouraged by all the prayers and kind words.

It's very true, NICO is way more than just a car site - It's about the people, and you guys are awesome.

Time for a NICO wig! We shall all shave our heads and donate the hair to be used for wigs. Hell, she can wear a different members hair each day!

Ok, so maybe that's a little creepy. Glad to hear she's doing well and is home. As always, best wishes on a speedy recovery.

Hey Greg,

Ddrumman (Dimitri) here. I’ve been pretty much gone and have not posted on Nico since the Olympics in Athens last summer.

I’m stunned about the news as everyone else in here.We will definitely pray for you.

My wife and I went thru this when her father was diagnosed with lung cancer.I can only imagine what your family is going thru. Hang in there buddy.Give me/us a holler if there is anything that we can do other than the obvious ([email protected] ). D.

Does anyone know why the hair loss thing happens during chemo?

The chemo kills the fast-growing cells. Cancer, hair, and nails are the most effected. That's what I was told.

Also, tell NICOmom that she might not lose all her hair, my dad's in chemo (Thyroid, metasized to the lungs) and his grey hairs didn't fall out. Actually, that might not cheer her up.
