Car: Working on my car

Post

Well it started happening only about a month and a half ago. I started noticing that occasionally my car will jump in-between 100's of rpm while idling. It will go from 700 to 800 then back down to 600 then up to 800 then to 700. The engine sounds as if it is fluctuating also. I chose to ignore this for a while thinking that it was just a weird idle, the car ran fine and oil/fuel consumption was normal. However, recently it has been doing a whole lot more weird things: 1) While OUT of gear and IN neutral as it slows down the car will shuck back and forth. Better term would be a shaking from forward to back. It only does this occasionally. 2) While IN gear and accelerating sometimes it takes a while to get the normal power up. Like the engine has to build up or something. 3) While IN GEAR or OUT of gear with my foot ON the clutch while coming to a stop the car's revs will dip VERY low, like 500-400 and stay that way for a while. It has straight up died on me 4 times now. 4) While OUT of gear and coming to a stop sometimes it will dip the RPM's from wherever I was at (usually 2700-3200) to 1500....stay there and then finally drop down to a more normal 700-800.

I bought a new MAF to see if that was the problem, the first day I got it and put it on it felt like my old car again...that lasted for about an hour, soon I felt the reluctance to accelerate and began noticing all the same things just to a smaller degree. Last night while I was out the car died on me going to stop, the idle weird thing, and the reluctance to accelerate were all there. At this point I can FEEL that something is not quite right with the engine. I just had a comp. check and I am nearly 180 on all cylinders...they pulled my plugs and they were white so I am obviously running lean. I am at my wits end, I dunno what it could be. My stock clutch is going and almost gone but that couldn't cause it. Also, this may sound absurd but it seems like the car does better while it is warm/sunny. Adverse weather it doesn't like. Last night it kept getting colder and eventually dropped down to 47 degrees. At that point the car was running horribly and everytime I came to stop the revs would go to 400-500.

I have detailed everything I can, I am at my wits end. I have a good deal of the turbo parts ready to go but this problem NEEDS to be fixed now before I turbo. I don't want to take it to my mechanic because I hate spending money for someone to do something I could possibly do myself. But I am already out for the cost of that MAF. And for reference, my car is a 93' fastback w/ 87,000 miles on it.

Thanks, Jon

Check for a leak in the intake somewhere between the MAF and the throttle.

Thanks for the help! Showing off the NWN sk33lz! :icesangel

Honestly though, just because I am running a little lean I don't see how that could affect my idle. I dunno, thanks for any actual help.
