The MetalJacket has it's timing marks engraved to the main pulley and not on a disk

Holy crap, this is awesome! I just bought an electric/hydraulic power steering pump off an MR2 so that I could eliminate my power steering.

So can I see a pic of the back of the Race version? The race will definitely let me mount a wheel to the front, but the back is a preferred.

I've been missing from the CA forum for a while then i came across this group buy today when i logged in. I kept reading on and have to say it caught my attention. From what i understand, this will help our engines rotate easier, or with less vibrational abnormalities? Sorry, but i do not fully understand and really would be interested in something like this considering mine and most other CA18s out there are not fully counterweighted.

It seems like a lot of money spent but i see rather as money invested. Im not chasing crazy hp numbers or anything like that yet but have no plans on selling this engine anytime soon either. I plan on tracking my car/engine as much as i can afford. Does it matter what kind of flywheel is on the other end of the crankshaft? I have an aftermarket lightweight flywheel if it makes a difference.

Since we don't have any CA Race balancers here I'll have a pic sent over that shows the rear. But from the looks of all the others i don't believe there is much room to be mounting anything on the rear.

Do you have pictures or know how much room you guys have on your CA from the rear of the balancer to the timing belt cover?

To try to answer those concerns

1) Lighter = less rotational mass = freer revs

Note that this is no ordinary underdrive lighten pulley (which are notably cheaper), yet a full on harmonic damper. Instead or just driving the other other pulleys without providing any harmonic dampering support.

2) Less harmful vibrations = longer engine life & less loss of power.

Balancers are less of a power added and more of an insurance/preventive maintenance piece. Your current balancer is 10/10 as old as your engine. Dried up and cracking where it use to provide harmonic dampering. Having a balancer fly apart on a weekend track day wouldn't be fun for you or the motor.

Plus it makes your engine look sexy... and always nice to know that your parts will deliver their best over 3 times the power of which you are making.

Flywheel = not of much concern. Many engine builds will have these balanced with the rotating assembly and additional weight will be removed from the wheel wheel to get things in check. But if you arn't at that level, it's not an issue to worry about.

Hope that helps you with your decision making. and sorry if it's a bit "all over the place" it's early and i'm tired...

It's not too big of a deal. Worst case the "race" unit could easily have a wheel bolted to the face that would allow me to mount magnets to it.

Go ahead and invoice me for the Race Balancer for the CA18DET. r boat wright at hot mail dot com

I need to ask this, since were tryint o get best bang for buck, are we extending this to other forums like Zilvia. I know theres a lot of B.S. beef between forums (why i dont knoe nor do i care) there both communities and both communities deal with the same chassis, mind you one of the biggest active scenes is in SoCal and Zilvia is mainly SoCal,

i didnt see an answer from when i first asked, i just thought id bring some pionts to light...the more people we get the cheaper it is for all.

What's the count up to? Your money order is on the way.

So with the trigger wheel I would bolt that under the timing wheel?

I have no problem with this whatsoever. PLEASE email the admin's of the perspective forums BEFORE you make a post linking to this thread. I have already posted this over on club-s12.org

I've been busy with college, work, girls, partaying, fam and life. I recently had to buy laptop for school and also been paying off a little credit card debt from previous car parts, etc. My 16,000 a year job can only get me so far in my race career. I have patience, a second job would help though...

If i had better resources then id be a little further i think. Atleast i can use my laptop as a digital storage oscilloscope and a tuning aid machine.

As far as the harmonic balancer goes, I would really be interested! Its vey enticing and I would pay for a one of a kind piece like that. The only issue right now is the money itself. Coolwhip, i will try and come up with my end of it but please do not put me on the list yet. Thanks.

p.s. I have been playing a tons more Gran Turismo 4 and Prolouge and im a race pro there! Honestly i am, i'll challenge anyone! Its as much racing as i can afford for now.

No problem. And to clear it up as well, payments will need to be sent by the deadline/group buy close date. Refunds for price changes will happen accordingly at that date as well.

Thanks

Understood!

Can you tell me more about the damper itself? What type of dampening system does it use? Is the inertia ring in fluid clutch or rubber? Material make-up? How long is the life expectancy? Warranty?

Thanks.

The dampening system is done by a rubber ring.

These balancers will NEVER need servicing or rebuilding due to the process they undergo during manufacturing.

Warranty covers any manufacture defect for the original owner of the balancer, for life even through racing use

Find another manufacturer that stands behind their product like that

you can catch some of the other specs off our website, http://rawbrokerage.com as they are similar to the RB balancers listed.

Hope that helps
