Heah guys New to Nico, I had a question my 96 I30 Has 144K miles and I have just replaced my spark plugs with NGK Platium, and the airfilter and for a week she was running fine, now all of a sudden when stopped at a red light I notice the RPM's dip below 6oo and she studders after that happens the RPM's go back to normal, and she's fine, the check engine light is not on, and doesn't flash when this occurs, I wanted to change the fuel filter and clean the throttle body, to see if that would help clears things up, could it be that one of the coil packs could be going bad, my mechanic says it could be either the gas I am using but I am running 93 (Yeah even with the high price of gas) or the coil packs and with out the check engie light being on he doesn't see the need to check for codes...

any help would be greatly appreciated...

It could be a coil going bad, but I would start with cleaning the Idle Air Control Valve first. Here is a thread that describes the procedure. http://www.moodym.com/maxima/c...l#IACIt probably would be a good idea to run a can of BG44K through the fuel tank, replace the fuel filter, and clean the throttle body as well.

Your mechanic is right about not bothering to check for codes in regards to the coils. The only code that I'm aware of that doesn't trigger the check engine light is P0325 for the knock sensor.
