I have a few spots on the top of my G35 that I assume are acid rain or hard water spots. Anybody know what gets rid of them?I had read that you can not buff them out.

wash the car, then use a light automotive abrasive like Meguiar's Body Scrub or Mothers Pre-Wax Cleaner on those spots. the clay bar will work if its a surface defect (hard water deposits) but if it looks like its etched in (anything acidic--acid rain, bird poo, sap, bugs), your best bet is to use the abrasives--do not use pressure, let the product do the work for you. if its etched in you might start taking off clear coat and get down to the paint using the clay bar or using to much pressure with the abrasives. once you've done this, you can go to waxing and polishing.

hope you don't have to go to the paint shop

sorry didn't want to scare you about using to much pressure...good rule of thumb is to use the pressure you use to wax your car when using an abrasive. and don't use a non-automotive scrub like soft scrub...big no no it will only make things worse for your clear coat

The product I recommend the most is Meguires 'Paint Cleaner' its not as harsh as a cut, but it removes all old wax buildup, tar, water spots, scratches, the lot, it is truly awesome and well worth the $10.

Meguiars Scratch X seems to have done the trick!! You have to rub it quite a bit, but the marks slowly disappear!I wouldn't want to do a whole car, but for a few small spots this works great. Thanks!
