Hey Guys, my 92 active decided to make me pay for my negligence... Apparently my drain clogged off and water had started to fill up under my glovebox last year. So I got under my car and did the ole coat hanger thing and managed to dislodge the culpret. So a couple of weeks ago, it did it again. I know this as the water would pour out on my passenger side floor board everytime I would make a left hand turn. This would also be coupled with the inside fan not blowing air for a few seconds. A couple days later (as I had ignored it). I made a left hand turn and my airconditioner stopped blowing cold air. Now all I have is ambient air and hot air. The climate control thingy seems to be doing its job... So I would appreciate any constructive input... maybe a little ridicule! as its still freakn hot in Louisiana

DC Electric motors whether they start the engine, roll up windows, move seats, or run HVAC fan only have a FINITE HOURS of operation life

Failure to replace fuel pumps [electric motor] or other motors creates weird action just before they fail totally.

I've spent $45,000 in mainteances and repairs [zero spent on paint or body work other than cleaners, wax] in 19.5 years if you haven't probably many things are defective.

You might be able to adjust the $45,000 by mileage to 14 cents per mile. driven since brand new.

If you reduce the fancy suspension and ecu and tcu costs you might save $3,500 which might save a penny per mile but many of the cost items were almost free and wholesale at worst so maybe you add 5 cents??

I'm not sure I understand you're response... The motor for the fan seems to be working properly. I'm just not having cold air blowing through my vents. Do you think the blower motor is going out on me?

If your fan is still working, I don't think the two issues are related.

My only thought is that if you were too aggressive with the coat hanger, you may have poked a hole in your a/c evaporator when you were cleaning out the drain last time. I had a bad one on my old truck that had a hole strangly shaped like the tip of a common screwdriver

I kind of doubt this is the issue though, especially if the loss of cooling is as abrupt as you say it was.

Just to clarify, you were driving along with ice cold air coming out of the vents, turned left and the cold air stopped... right?

also the ac worked fine for about a year after the North American coat hanger technique was implemented

Well, at least you didn't use the much less successful East Asian hanger technique! .

Like I said earlier, I don't think your issue is related to the water drainage problem you've been having. Do you have a copy of the factory service manual (FSM)? If not, I would download the one for a 1994 here and read up on everything. Ignore anything about pressures, since the '94 uses 134a, while your car uses the older R12 regrigerant.

The a/c compressor is controlled by the car's ECU and for it to send voltage to the compressor relay the following criteria must be met:

1) Dual pressure switch must not read that the refrigerant pressure is too high or too low.

2) Evaporator sensor must not read a temperature that's too low (prevents freeze up)

3) Temperature sensor on compressor must not be tripped (burns out if compressor overheats)

I would start with the self test, to see if it tells you anything. Also, I have had issues with my climate controller plug not being inserted all the way, causing the compressor to not work, but that's probably pretty rare. Might as well check it if you have removed that part recently though...

My point was how high did you allow the dirty slimy drain water to get and where and what did it damage. Some things take years to show up.

One usually starts with gauges to see if system is circulating freon or if it has leaked out. Then follow FSM diagnosis procedures just as any trained tech would. Step by step!

There is a reason why the FSM has 125+ pages of detailed info and diagnostic procedures.

is the a/c compressor engaging?

Also is there a temp difference between the high and low side lines?
