I have a 2004 Titan SE with 40,000 miles. Truck has had the brake recall upgrade done. Last week while towing a car trailer, I was entering highway from on ramp under hard acceleration. The three lights on left side of dash lit up (slip abs, vdc off). When I shut truck down and restarted, they were on but went off shortly after moving. They came back on within 5 min, and have been going on and off since, and they seem to be staying on longer as time goes on. Brake fluid is full, pads are 75%, all sensor wires appear to be in good shape. I have also bled the system and there was no air in it. OBD code reader is showing no codes, self diagnostics is giving me all 10 flashes. Any ideas?

Your OBD code reader might not check all the control units in the vehicle. It probably only checks the engine control unit for codes. The codes that would turn on those lights would get stored in the ABS control unit. Does the car trailer have any aftermarket brake controller that has been wired into the factory harness somewhere. Have you had the BCM jumper harness recall? If you look under the steering column you will see a bunch of harness wrapped in electrical tape and it plugs in between a control unit(BCM) and the factory harness. That is the recall part. Did you break traction? With an open diff., if you roast one tire down and the two wheel speed sensors don't read the same in a strait line, that could cause a problem.

The trailer was a new U-Haul Auto Transporter Trailer that was equiped with surge brakes, and only used the 4 pin flat conector. I don't think I had the BCM jumper harness recall. I never broke traction. Do you think it could be the BCM jumper causing this by itself?

I can't remember what the purpose of that harness was but I wanna say it was directly related to towing. Unfortunately I think your just gonna have to have the code pulled by a Nissan service facility. Just pay for the code but not the repair, unless it falls under warranty. I would hate to have you remove or install a tow related part when the code is for a wheel speed sensor or something of that nature. Also, every time your vehicle is written up at a Nissan dealership the service writer is supposed to check for any recalls and suggest you have them performed. It's all based off of a Nissan computer program, so if the recall was done in California the dealer in Virginia will be able to tell you the name of the dealer that performed the recall.

I ageree. The recall you are refering to is related to the trailer lights. They will short out and burn out the BCM. I'm sure you have noticed that the BCM harness kit has two 10A fuses that are not part of the main harness. Shouldn't have anything to do with the ABS/VDC light. Until we know what code is in the system, we can't give you any legitimate advice.

I had the codes read at STEALERSHIP. The hooked up the consult II read that my right front abs sensor was bad and charged me $80.00! They then wanted to charge me $154.00 for the sensor and $90.00 to install it! I got the sensor from an on line Nissan parts for $115.00 and I will put it in myself. My VIn was not included in the BCM recall.

$80.00 to just pull the code! That sucks. Some dealerships charge half price to just pull the code. Other dealerships charge one full hour to pull the code and diagnose the issue. In your instance there is no diagnosing. It's a visual inspection and then a part replacement. Baahh! Either way. Hopefully this fixes the issue. And thanks for the back up pm_page6776
