Guys, looks like my ABS pump is leaking Brake fluid - it had progressively becoming bad and this may be causing my morning sickness as well (brakes are sluggish and hard - another thread).

I am attaching a picture here.

Is this seal replaceable or do I need to get the whole pump replaced. I have marked the area with a white rectangle - if you expand the screen you should be able to see the white rectangle.

I checked out car-parts and the prices are anywhere from $60 to 1K - any pointers there as to what to ask over the phone when picking one of these up?

Thanks

I paid $100 for an ABS actuator at a junk yard and it turned out to be fairly easy to replace. Still working fine. A new one was about $300 plus.

A new Q45 actuator was $300? My local dealership quoted $1800. Who quoted you that price?

We pay between $300 and $400 delivered from the junk yard but they know what it is and what it cost new.

When you buy a junker: look at ABS a quick partial recovery same with low mile diff and all the other things.

A leaking 92 ABS means you were very very bad about changing brake fluid vs the 90 unit which all leaked no matter what you did.

They changed the seal material in 91 plus the oem factory fill reacted with low quality US brake fluid used to top it off. {the big bottles were not throw away once opened and allowed to sit till used up} pouring ABSORBED water into the system.

I operate on a military salary so I have to be very resourceful. I go to junk yards where you pull the parts yourself and they tend to charge a flat fee regardless of the type of car the part came out of. In the case of the actuator I just made sure there was no sign of previous leakage and that the lines were still connected with brake fluid still in the system. Took a chance but it paid off so far. Right now I am trying to get a cooling fan ( don't need the clutch) but the one I saw was in poor shape.

Fan blades crack and detiorate with exposure alone, let alone wear. A new one from http://www.everythinginfiniti.com would be a wiser choice as things can go suddenly catastrophic when it fails at highway speeds.

And it's relatively cheap.
