Actually - that car looks very worn for the mileage if you ask me.

Perhaps the pics are not too clear, but the steering wheel looks pretty shiney and the seats are very well worn indeed for an 80K mile car.

The leather seats on the 240SX are very hard wearing and should look good for a very long time.

Quote »The guys that I'm buying it from are puttin on a full cat-back exhaust(2.5" mandrel) and a clifford alarm(concept 20 or better) all for the same price! [/quote]

Why would they do all that extra stuff - and cut into their profit margin? As far as I am aware all the 240SX SE's are fitted with a factory alarm and immobiliser (mine is anyway)

I personally don't think this a a great deal - if you were getting it or 6-7k I think it would be a better deal - but I am concerned about the reported mileage.

Interior is very worn for the mileage.

not all SE's come stock with an alarm. it is an option.

gtd65,

You bring up some good points. Thanks for your opinion on this. Remember this will be a project car for me though so eventually the seats will probably be pulled out and replaced. I've looked for a few months and haven't found anything in this condition for this price. They are putting on the exhaust and alarm becuase of a problem that I found in the stock muffler. Instead of replacing it...just put on the full catback. Also, the alarm was put in to help in the negotiations. The car was on ebay and it went for $8500. But of course I am getting it for less since I have a deposit on it and have dealt with them a bit before.

I plan to swap the engine soon...hopefully by the end of the year, but maybe not that soon.

Sorry for the double post...this is the second time that I've made this mistake.

I was in the market for a '98 Camaro SS at the turn of the year - which fell thru.

I had my car on the for-sale boards (mine is auto though) have a look at the condition of my interior etc - mine is a '95 SE though.

If you are going to do an engine swap etc - I think you are paying an awful high price - get a high mileage model for around 5K and do the engine mods - personally I think the price is too high for an engine swap/project car.

This only my opinion though - however - I suspect you are making the cardinal mistake of buying with your heart and not your head.

I nearly did that once with a Datsun 240Z...luckily I took the older guys advice - but hell did I want it :(

Well I've looked for quite some time. And I've TRIED to remove emotion from the buying process. There is still some emotion there though. And again...I haven't been able to find anything better and I've been looking and have had dealers looking for about 2 months.

I did make the mistake of buying with my heart an '85 Maxima. It was a terrible expense! With this at least I'll be able to "play" with it when I want to. It will be my second car.

If mine had been a manual it would have been a good option - the main trouble I found when looking for cars here is to find an "honest" car that has not been tampered/messed around with.

That was why I settled for the auto in the end...it was totally standard apart from a K&N air fliter :)

My biggest problem was this: I wanted a 240sx, notchback, manual transmission. That was almost impossible to find no matter what the year. One guy got $5500 for a white 95 SE that didn't run. All the other manual notchback cars were going for much more. Look online and locally and let me know if you can find one like that...I couldn't! The initial price is more than I originally wanted to spend...but it will still fit in my "overall budget" for the project car.

Are you prepared to travel - or only want a local car?

I often notice that cars in Miami are much cheaper than central FL for some reason.

my '95 SE has a basically perfect interior, 120k on it (when I got it) and a good stereo system from the factory. Every single option installed, and I paid $3250 for it from a dealership.

I would NEVER pay 8k for an S14, you can get an S14.1 for that kind of money.

All SE's had keyless entry and an alarm system, it was standard equipment on the SE package.

dunno if that helps any or not, but I wouldn't pay that much for it.

again, not all SE's come with keyless entry, unless the 95's are differnent or something, but my 96 se did not come with it and i know 2 other people with se's that do not have it.

Well, thanks for the advice guys...I've gotten the price down a bit, but it's still around $7K. I'm going to take the plunge so wish me luck!

I've got money that the car had it, but the previous owner just lost the remote.

Have you tried to program a remote for it?

I'm thinking that's a bit high, too. I was surprised at some people's favorable reaction to the original price you stated. 7K is better, but not a steal, certainly. I got mine with 90K for 5K in great condition save for one dent on the driver's side. It's not an SE, though.

Sounds like you love it, though, so good luck with it, and have fun!

Paul, where would you check for a previously installed door opening receiver?

I have the factory fitted Alarm and Immobliser - but no sign of any remote keyfobs from the previous owner.

I have been thinking about fitting remote door locking but just never got around to it yet. This could be another option though :)

creophusI hope the car deal goes well for ya :)

gtd65The notification only takes place once until you come back to the forum. For example...if you post and then leave the forum...you'll get notified when someone leaves a post. If there are a hundred posts before you get back to the forum, you won't get another message. But if there is a post and you check it, then leave, you'll be notified again if someone posts. Check that post and leave the forum...you'll be notified again..etc.

I'm not thrilled with the price, but again...it is the best that I could find. I tried all those other places: dealers, credit union, auctions, autotrader, etc. and came up with nothing for about 2 months.

Hmm the notification system sounds different for sure...

Back to your car though, I was going to suggest to you that as you were thinking about doing the engine swap etc it would probably have been an idea just to do a transmission swap at the same time.

But hey - it's too late for that now ;)

that purple color is really cool. my friend has the exact same 240.. Its sorta the chameleon style. I'd take black over it.. just because 240s are sexy in black.
