Thought I was going to buy an Altima- friend owns dealership- brought me home a Maxima to test drive and I really Love it.... I sold my SUV in order to get a car with better mileage and not use premium gas- Does the Maxima REQUIRE premium or can you use the midgrade- I am more happy about the better mileage-other SUV got 15/city and this car says 21/City -altima was 24/city but I like the Maxima more- seems a little nicer and sportier... tell mewhat you love about the Maxima

Welcome to NICOclub!

The Maxima does "require" premium fuel for the best performance, you can run mid-grade but your fuel mileage will decrease. I'm not sure if it applies to the current Maximas, but my car lost as much as 3-4mpg by running mid-grade vs premium, which is a considerable difference. The Maxima is also rated for 19mpg city and 26mpg highway, but it may be averaging 21mpg combined.

Personally I prefer the current Altima 3.5 over the current Maxima, just because I feel like the Maxima is a bit overpriced now. You should check out an Altima 3.5SR if you haven't already, it starts right at $25,000 when the Maxima starts at nearly $32,000 and I don't see $7,000 between it and the Altima myself. You might also consider looking at the Infiniti G sedan, if you don't feel like the Altima 3.5SR is as nice as the Maxima, because it starts at nearly the same price and you get a lot more for your money with it. Plus the Infiniti G doesn't have the CVT, which is one thing that I despise about the Maxima and Altima both.

I love my car and it's one of the best cars i've owned, which is probably why this is my second one now. After 2003 I pretty much lost all interest in them though. They're still nice cars even now, but I wouldn't buy one personally when the Infiniti G sedan also starts at the same price and is a MUCH nicer car IMHO.

thanks- I ended up getting a 2010 Maxima with 20,000 miles and i plan to use premium gas- better gas mileage is important and premium gas isn't but $5-$6 more a tank adn i really don't drive as much as I used to- Love this car- I liked the Altima but Love the Maxima more- sportier and more fun to drive!

Good choice on the used one then! You made it sound like you were only in the market for a new one, so I was basing it upon that, but glad to hear you like it, they're sharp looking cars for sure. Post some pics and let us know if you have any questions.
