Well, of course they were "piggish". They were made to be a somewhat comfortable, yet sporty feeling, family sedan. The turbo options in the Ceffy and the Laurel were the way to go, even though the suspension was soft and mushy.
I don't know what the Ceffy's top model was, but the Laurel Club S Turbo, like I had, was a really good car that still is popular with the drifters, as well as the old Oji-sans. The later C35 Club S Turbos could be had with a factory 5 speed and some stiffer suspension under it. It was such a far cry better than the C33 and super heavy C34 Laurels.
The Ceffy and the Laurel also share a lot of components with each other, as well as R32 Skylines and S13 Silvias.
Example, the front struts are S13, the rears are R32. The brakes in the standard models are 2 pot fronts and 1 pot rears from the R32 GTS-T (Type Ms had 4 and 2 respectively). The hubs are S13 (stock 4 lug). Rear diff (VLSD) is R32 Type M, which can also be used in the S13. (Actually, S13 may have come with a stock VLSD, but I am not sure about that in Japan.)
If you ever need some spare RB20DET parts, let me know. I may have some stuff sitting in my locker, should you need it.
